New Hampshire Tops the Chart as "Most Livable State"

NH MapAfter arriving home  from the post office this morning I grabbed the Eagle Tribune newspaper from out front. The headline was how for the last 4 years New Hampshire has come out on top. A study earlier this month by Morgan Quinto Press from Lawrence Kansas named the Granite State the most livable based on 44 factors. Of course I don't know the 44 factors

Most people interviewed asked about why they love NH said they loved the proximity to the ocean, lakes region and the mountains. Some spoke how when they moved away the really missed the four seasons.

Most people who live in Southern NH commute to Massachusetts and to downtown Boston. To gain the top spot most people from New Hampshire felt they were safe with low crime and low poverty and a high number of people with college degreesgolf course

One of the things that people felt they did not like about NH was their taxes. NH has high property taxes but we do not have a sales tax or income tax. Right now part of our property taxes help fund public education and that's how our town's make their money for fire, police and rescue.

Our Governor John Lyncjh has said "The report reaffirms what the citizens of our state already know.

New Hampshire is a great place to live and work.

"Please don't forget our state motto. "Live Free or Die"

Hi Leigh, I wish I did. I have permission to use it from Broker's Title. They paid to have it done and since I am such a nice guy they have allowed us to use it.

Very nice Jay.  When I first moved from San Francisco to Nashua, NH, my friends there thought I had gone nuts!  That was in 1997 -- and Nashua was named once of the best places to live!   I am finally getting used to the big snow storms - and I do miss the fog horns -- but NH is a beautiful place to live.

Jay-One of my old high school classmates sent me an email yesterday.  She informed me that she and her husband moved to a very beautiful place.....New Hampshire!  They previously were living in Indiana.  I guess all the great stuff you say about your state is really true :)

Aloha!

Jay,

Here's the link to the story:  http://www.eagletribune.com/archivesearch/local_story_085115504

We moved up from Mass. about 12 years ago and never looked back.  In fact, we wished we could have moved sooner.  Despite the high property taxes, we couldn't get over the low cost of living.  We bought a 2-bedroom townhouse in Nashua for $28,000 and tripled our money 3 years later.  Our auto insurance was cut in half.  No sales tax, no state income tax.  Need I say more?

No, but I will anyway.  Because the most important reason for our move was to raise our daughter in a safe, wholesome community where the lifestyle is a little more quiet and laid back. That's the kind of opportunity every kid deserves.  And now, as she fast approaches the age of 15, it's clear to see that it was the best decision we ever made.

Hi All, somehow I didn't see you all stopped by as I was busy packing up and getting ready for our trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. Ouch, I got a sunburn today while stretched out on my lounge chair watching dolphins bob up and down the coast. Just got up from a nap and we are headed over to visit our friends from Silver Springs, MD and we will have a cocktail or two or three.

I have a tee time to play golf tomorrow morning at 8:45 and I think it will rain a little. Moni wants to stay another week but we can't do that.

Jay,

My uncle used to live in Laconia, I use to visit him  when I was aroung 7 or 8, we did some fishing for red perch, went to Mount Washington, down to the theatre district, it was cool, not sure if you are near there.

Anne Cummings and I had a brief conversation about it as she is from NH also.
