Sally- I think I remember that story....:( It is so easy to say "I will just be a minute" and that's why I say we need to all remember that that one minute can have serious consequences. Pets and small children cannot open the doors to protect themselves !!!!
It's hard to imagine how something like this could ever happen. I've heard of several cases and it is so sickening and sad.
Thanks for sharing this.

I am so passionate about this law!
Just last week I had to call 911 not because a child was left in a car parking lot during the afternoon....but 2 small dogs! Only 1 side window was cracked open. The dogs were barking while I waited for the police to arrive. We went into the local stores first and tried to find the owner. No luck. After a total of 20 mins the owner came out to his car and said he was only gone for 5 minutes! Ugh! I wanted to put him in the car for 20 minutes! ;)
We still need to educate! Thanks for this post!
Kathy, this a very good topic, and sadly already this year in our area we have had these absent minded parents who left kids in hot cars where the kid died. It is very tragic, and your post is a good reminder on this.
Kathy,
I shudder even to read this. What don't people get about protecting our children? Just so very unnerving. Children are such angels right from the start, they all are, and they all deserve a chance.
Kathy, I can't see how anyone could forget a child. A child is our most precious gift and we're responsible for them. How tragic this is and what a great reminder to look to see if they're in the car. I saw a very sad story on the internet today about a 3 year old little boy whose mom left him in the car and went into work. The police said that he had tried to get free...even finding some keys in the truck and trying to put them in the ignition. He didn't make it. (BTW..I got your email and I'll write later)
Ann - It is indeed tragic and sad for the families.
Janice- You made my point exactly....that Pet Owner thought he was only gone 5 minutes....but you and the Police knew it to be much longer. That 20 minutes could have had a tragic outcome for sure. You are so right that people still need to be educated no matter how many times it's said, as once again people think just a few minutes is OK :(
Gary- Yes out here in the Desert it can get really hot in the cars, FAST!!! When I went to the water-park and came out at 6PM...it was 116 degrees....imagine what the car was like, and I had the windows cracked. Anywhere it is dangerous to leave children unattended...and death is just one of the many things that can happen...what about kidnapping, rolling cars, etc.
Rebecca- Well said.....!!!
Linda-The pictures that come to mind of a 3 year old trying to escape is horrible!!! More campaigns to let everyone know about this is needed....so tie that purple ribbon on your car, or wear one, and when people ask what it's for you can remind them of that little boy :(
Kathy, compelling post....and good reminder to all the world! No child should ever really be left unattended any where in any place. Thanks for your work!
Okay, I am back and ready to go. I think it is good for you to remind folks, do you wonder why you have to even remind them?
Did they (whomever) not see the baby when they put them in the seat? How could you miss that. Not saying that we are forgetful at times but your baby. First and foremost.
Jeanean-You are so right...no chil should be left unattended....heck enough things can go wrong when we ARE sup[ervising them!
Audrey-Hi there friend, glad you're back online ........now your last line in your comment is like a hit in the gut!!! You said," do you wonder why you have to even remind them? " I really do wonder why we have to remind people....what the heck happened to common sense in this world!
Robert-So apropos that your comment followed Audrey's.....Sally's story and Linda's are as bad as Kaitlan's. I just cannot imagine forgetting my child...however I believe that the people that just "run in for a minute" are far more prevalent than the one's that forgot :) they didn't forget...they chose to leave the child unattended.
Kathy Audrey said it before I could. I'm like it is a shame we have to have a law, how about a little decent common sense? We shouldn't even be having this conversation!
Kathy,
When I hear stories about children left in cars, it really sets me off. How can anyone forget their child is in the car with them? I say if you can't remember who your passengers are, you should not be driving! Then there are those stupid people who intentionally leave the child in the car. What do they have where their brain is supposed to be?
Kathy.....thanks for the reminder. i can't imagine leaving a pet or a child in a car unattended at any time. it is soooo cruel.
You're kidding purple ribbons? what a great idea -you would think it would make common sense.............its so uncommon, common sense no? i heard about a recent case where this young adult son left his elderly parents in a locked car and one of them died..:-(
Grrrr...that brought up some memories....grrrrr.
A story: A woman over here went to work (forgot to drop the sleeping baby in the back at the sitters) and came out 8 hours later to find the baby dead.
I'm with you on PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!
