I'm a loan officer which means that I act between lending institutions and borrowers. In the process, there is alot of paperwork!
One way Ive found to cut down on costs (and trees) is to user internet/email faxes.

I use efax to send and receive. I receive everything as a pdf file which makes it easy to forward. i too think that stand alone fax machines should just go away and will be glad when they do.
