Akron, OH -Homeowners who think its normal for their dryer to take more than one cycle to dry clothes -- think again.  Lint accumulation or blockage in the vent is a known cause of dryers running inefficiently, says Gary Collins, Dryer Vent Wizard, (DVW), Dry Clothes, Safe Homes of Avon Lake, the largest chain of dryer vent specialists in the U.S.

"While consumers are becoming more aware of the need to conserve energy, they are still unaware that yearly dryer and dryer vent maintenance will help cut energy consumption and bills," says Collins.

The average home spends about $1900 on energy costs every year, according to research conducted by Energy Star a program managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy.

"With energy costs rising, our role is as much about educating customers as it is providing dryer vent solutions," says Collins, whose Avon Lake franchise specializes in dryer vent cleaning, replacing vents made of flammable material, repairing and altering vents for residential and commercial clients.

Collins shares these maintenance "tips" to keep dryers running efficiently and reduce energy consumption and costs:

•·         Be sure that dryer vent systems are up to code with city, state and manufacturer.

•·         Replace any plastic or foil vent with semi-rigid or solid metal venting.

•·         Have dryer vents professionally cleaned and inspected annually

•·         Clean lint traps before and after drying a load. .

•·         Wash lint screens with soap and water every few months to remove residue left behind by fabric softeners.

           Warning signs to look for:

•·         Clothes are taking more than one cycle to dry, especially jeans and towels.

•·         No lint visible in lint screen.

•·         Dryer repeatedly stops during a cycle.

"Consumers who follow these guidelines will be pleasantly surprised when they find their clothes dryer takes less time to dry clothes and it uses less energy," says Collins.

Gary Collins is a franchise owner/operator of http://www.dryerventwizard.com (DVW), Dry Clothes, Safe Homes, a home service franchise based in Avon Lake.  Dryer Vent Wizard specializes in dryer fire prevention and "urgent response" dryer vent maintenance, repair, replacement and alterations.
