Prospecting among family and friends.

A Birthday party for a great nephew on the wife's side.  A bit of soda pop and try to make conversation with people you have no common ground with except for a 1year old that has now clue as to what is going on!

But, being the great person I am, (these words right from my mother-in-law) I went and made small talk.

Small talk turned into heavy Real Estate talk when my niece told some of her freinds ther, that I was helping them find a house.

Well questions flew quicker than I could answer.  After an hour I had handed out (by request) 4 cards with  wanting specifics on certain areas.

"Hmmm, Sweetheart, when is the next extended family get together?"

My husband is annoyed when I wear my named tag out to dinner after work, but I have met new clients in restaurants, bookstores, at the movie theater... This business is a very social business. When we talk about our business, everyone understands what we are talking about and almost everyone has questions, whether they are interested in buying or selling - or just curious about their investment.

William, I took you to be a natural mixer at any party.  Good luck on the return on those 4 business cards.

Morning Bill,

This business of ours can be conducted anywhere, anytime with anyone. It makes for good conversation and once in a while we actually collect a pay check. Bottom line is we are doing something that we really enjoy!

What I've found is that conversation about real estate has to come natural at parties and get togethers, and is perfect when someone asks you rather than you advertising it at the party.  I use the FORD approach when I meet people.  I ask questions about their:

Family & Friends

Occupation

Recreation

Dreams or Destination

The people I am talking to usually reciprocate which is an open door to talk about real estate.
