Lofts in Detroit???

By

Believe it or not there are many lofts in Detroit that are making people look twice. I have been a big fan of lofts. I lived in the Brooklyn lofts off Michigan ave in Detroit 4 years ago. I loved the open concept and old school feel of Detroit.

Today, Detroit has many lofts to pick from with open concepts for any taste. Some even have a tax break included. This concept is new to Detroit and is being received with open arms by some. I went on an open house with other Realtors in the fall. I could not believe what I saw. Places that use to vacant, and homeless people living in, now,  is beautiful. It was amazing to me and most on the tour. We later met with builders, owners and renters that live in the lofts we saw. The people we meet talked of a new Detroit some of us at the time did not even know was there. How could that be?

It was sad to say that too many people living around Detroit would not even know what was happening! They had no idea. It felt like the people that have lived in the Detroit lofts were telling them a secret. They told stories of what there friends and families thought of when they told them of the move to Detroit.  I will say Detroit had a bad wrap in the past years. People now want change, Investor want to make money, and the market needs a huge change!Could this be the start?

At the end of the day I saw many people that were happy to go back to their lives and pass on what they saw. It was an honor to go to on the trip.  I think it was city living that did the tour and I want to pass on the trip and info.  Please if you have a chance to look up something do a search on Detroit lofts and see what I saw.

In closing, When you here something bad about Detroit remember this. Read something good and share that. Do the world a favor and give a positive feed to something. Let the news do their job and show the world the bad.

Matt the MARINE says sound off, and let me hear what you think.

Just so you know, I have nothing to do with is loft site or any other.

You are right, maybe this is what Detroit needs,  From what I have heard of the Detroit market, it needs something to jumpstart it.

I don't know Detroit, but have seen this phenomenon take off in other cities. It would be great to see some photos. If you have some, why don't you post them?

Yes it appears it's happening now in FLINT also.  They are changing Downtown Flint quite drastically with Loft apartments and a very seedy hotel is now going CONDO.  Of course what is really needed is Student housign for UofM Flint and it's in the talking phase still.  However Lofts seem to be turning distressed towns into the place to be.  I'm all for some change here in the Flint area.

There have been some cool places to live in Detroit for some time now.  Some buddies of mine used to live in Riverplace.  Very nice.

Good post.  I went on a loft tour a few weeks ago and was disappointed at how some of them were finished out.  My concept of a loft is a wide open area for the kitchen, living room and bedroom.  What I found was small cramped quarters.  The positive was I know of a great loft in the area that is wide open, remodeled and has a great view of the square.  I would love to live in that loft!

Steven your right Detroit gets a bad rap (not ALL is justified) there are some very cool places there.

So  true Kay  I too would expect alot of open spaces  that's why I personally just cant live in one I just don't get where the stuff goes :)  I don't see the vision.  But  I really like the look.  I'd probably have to hire someone just to set my furniture then I'd have an awesome space.  Cramped square places  are called apartments not lofts.
