Last Monday was supposed to be filled with stories of the previous week in which my broker and co-broker took a trip from Orlando, Florida to Northern Michigan, Hospice to Hospice. The trip was to make sure that one of our customers had made it home for the end of life's journey. He was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer and didn't have much time left, so my broker's rented an RV and drove him there themselves. He passed away less than 24 hours after they had delivered him to the local Hospice after he truly had a great time during his transport. Within a few hours of his passing a full price offer came in for his home and his wife will not have to be worried over tying up loose ends here. It was a bitter sweet journey and my brokers returned late Saturday and rested up before resuming their responsibilities of running our office.
Monday morning came around, and the first phone call my Broker, Sheri Loiacano took at about 7am was with some horrible news. Her daughter had been in a serious car accident very early Monday morning, and had until just recently been recorded at the hospital as a Jane Doe. Once her identity was known the process of contacting the family was started. The person on the phone told her that there had been an accident and that she needed to get to the trauma center immediately. So as any mother would, she rushed out leaving her coffee cup where it sat on her desk.
Upon arriving at the hospital the extent of her daughter Melissa's injuries were revealed. She had a been thrown from the car and broke her hip, had bleeding on the brain and broke the bones in her neck in 3 places. The 3rd, 4th and 5th vertibrete had been broken badly and was not breathing on her own. She was in a coma and on life support, a breathing machine.
As time went on it was very hit and miss with her and the prayer chain was started. On Tuesday she surgery to fuse the bones in her neck, and she was still in a coma. The surgeon had notified the family of the results of her surgery with point blank precision. He said "the surgery went well, we fused the bones without any problem, but the damage to her spinal cord is the worst I have ever seen". He went on to say that he is certain that she will never move her limbs again and may never breathe on her own. With this scientific description of what to hope for we did the only thing left, we continued to pray for her and asked everyone we knew to pray. Her pastor had even arranged for prayers to be said at the Prayer Wall in Jerusalum.
It wasnt until Thursday that Melissa opened her eyes for a brief moment and slipped back into a coma. So of course more praying and hoping for a miracle. That miracle came at about 5:45PM on Saturday, after she began to breathe on her own about 50% of the time and was waking up more often. Sheri (my broker and her mom) accompanied by Melissa's boyfriend were making thier bi-hourly visit and Mel had awaken upon them entering the room so Sheri proceeded to reassure her that she was there for her and would be there during the long journey, never telling Mel that she most likely will never walk. As any 18 year old girl would be in this conditon, Mel was irritated and in pain and really just wanted to be left alone. So far her only communication has been with blinking her eyes, and she was sure rolling them on this visit. As my broker kept talking to her Melissa shrugged her left shoulder as if blowing her off. This shocked everyone in the room so she was asked to do it again. She again shrugged her mom off and that sent her mom into a panic. She ran out of the room and retreived the nurse, and repeated the movements 2 more times! This was noted on her medical chart and is nothing short of a miracle.
This is proof that with God, all things are possible. We have had several small miracles during the week, but nothing that gave this much hope. I left some of them out in order to spare readers from too much reading. We at Windsor Realty Group and especially on behalf of my Broker and her family ask that as many of you pray for her recovery. We have seen the results of prayer so far, and with a bit more noise making it to heaven maybe she can get a full recovery.
Thank you for reading and God Bless!
