Be careful who you invite over for a hurricane - they may come!

I was hurricane shopping with my friend Janet yesterday - you know, water, batteries, frozen lasagna, etc.  ( I will get back to the lasagna later)

Janet received a phone call from her friend in Ellenton, FL.  It seems her friend was worried about all of us and invited us to stay safe at her home through Fay.  Well, Janet got off the phone and almost died laughing.  You see our group consists of:  4 adults, 2 teenagers, 2 big dogs, a cat, a bottle-fed baby kitten and 2 bearded dragons.  We thought it would be really funny to show up - but decided it would also be too difficult.   Just be careful who you invite over, they may take you up on the offer.  And nobody wants 2 teenagers when the power goes out and they loose all connectivity.  I find animals are easier than teens.

Back to the lasagna.  I always buy a large Stouffer's lasagna because it remains frozen really well in the freezer, even with no power.  When it finally does get time to cook it, you can put it right on the gas grill in the aluminum pan and don't forget to throw on some garlic bread wrapped in foil.  Your neighbors will love you - invite them over.

Edie ~ Love your lasagna tip; what a great idea!  As we start to enter Hurricane season, it's good to be as prepared as possible.

That is a really good idea about the gas grill and the lasagna, I had no idea I could possible cook them outside on the grill. (That is for us people who still use electric stoves)

Todd and Kathy - We have been without power for 5 days before and you learn quickly.  I can't go without coffee and instant won't work for me.   I boil the water on the grill also or coleman stove and use a French Press for my coffee.
