| 03-27-2007 6:58 AM (Las Vegas, NV) -- Southern Nevada's most famous desert tortoise has emerged from his burrow, which means the beginning of spring in the valley. Mojave Max officially came out of hibernation just before noon yesterday. Last year, he made his first public appearance on April 3rd. Local students have taken part in a contest to estimate when Max would emerge from his burrow this year. The winning student will get a yearlong pass to local conservation areas, and the entire class will visit Mojave Max's home. Their teacher will get a personal computer.
