Is this a Mobile?

By

Living in a small town has it share of excitement.

The Baptist church auctioned off this house to be moved and Phillip B won the bid.  As a local REALTOR I enjoy getting to work outside the box every now and then.  A lot was purchased and developed and the house is in the process of getting to travel to its new location.

A couple of weeks from now I should have a sign in the yard and hopefully a new buyer signing on the dotted line.  Kinda exciting to see 'your' new home rolling into place.  A bit of modern history- pre/fab the old fashioned way!

Question is do I list it as a Mobile home?

Cheryl - This sounds like a case of "have home, will travel". Good luck with the listing.

Valerie, glad I gave you a giggle

Leander- I like that, this ones rolls at 6 am Wednesday, already there are cost over runs - seems our town is fiber optic and that costs more to move lines- the bid had worked in for electrical and phone lines and didn't take into account the other.  Nothing is ever easy is it?  cw

Cheryl, have wheels, will move home. I never figure how they do this anyway. But you were ready with the camera to capture the event.

Gary, I sold him the lot he is moving it too, and plan to sell the home once it is on site.

Years ago, I know this was done a lot more then today, all the rules and regs and red tape so to speak, makes it a bit steep.  This one should be a win win for the mover and the new buyer.  cw

Cheryl - it might not be a mobile but does it qualify as a motor home. I was traveling in South Australia a few years back and was forced off the (very narrow) road by a home traveling in the opposite direction, at about 30 mph. Took them about 3 hours to move it from one town to the next.

Mike, bet you wish you had taken a picture!, 3 hours is not that long considering what it would take to build it new.  This one is just going across town,  cw

Brings a whole new meaning to "just moved into the neighborhood".  or "just dropped in". Don't forget to disclose that the house has been "relocated".  :)

Kevin, can I just have them sign NO-Disclosures due to not living on the property.

Kinda, I don't know where it came from- I wasn't living there at the time-

cheryl (again I am kidding)  full disclosures all the time- willis

I'm still amazed at how they can move those homes that way.  I've seen them on the road and still can't believe it.  I guess you would only be able to list it as a "mobile" home if it were till on wheels.

JON, it is a process, these guys are from out of town, everything has to be disconnected &/or secured (chimney, front porch etc... removed) IT is pretty neat watching them lift it (or so I am told, I missed it this time).  Hope to do another one later this year.  cw

Hey Cheryl W, That house is soooo cute, even cuter on wheels.. Just ship it to NC and I will make a little vacation cottage out of it.. Of course, the movers would probably charge a bazillion dollars to move it here..  I saw a show on HGTV called Haulin House, these people got a really nice large, 2 story house for nothing cuz, the builder was going to tear it down to build new homes.. They had to have the house cut in two with two barges to take it about 50 miles down the river in FL.. I think the cost was about $450k - God bless,

Maybe they could have just kept it on the barges and made 'houseboats' out of them.

Don't think like that Kevin, now the rain is going to keep up another 39 days.  The mist this morning was nice, a couple of hours into it and it is annoying (kinda like me)  The house is making slow progress to its new resting place.  About an hour behind schedule but on the road.  I am taking a break to get a cup of coffee and dry off a bit.  cw

Does give a new meaning to "mobile home." Don't let the lenders get wind of "mobile" home <G>

Captian, secured a buyer, will write the offer/contract on Monday.  close the end of the month.  Funny thing is another church asked me to get a house moved for them (I have 3 different people wanting to do it)  One customer called me to ask a hypo about moving his home (bought repo) b/c he has an offer on just the land.  I told him what I had been working on and he is interested in moving yet another house for a flip.  Now I am up to four projects.  Kinda strange, when we haven't seen a house get moved in many years.  Maybe this is my way of helping pull out of a slump.  Oh the fireplace is going back in as an electric (b/c of insurance)  I will post pictures after the re-hab.  cw
