"Are we really grateful for the good already received? then we shall avail ourselves of the blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech." - M. Baker Eddy
How often in life do we find ourselves wanting more? more money, more house, more vacations, more "things." If we stop and realize how much we actually have, we would be pleasantly surprised. How easy is it to feel how badly our day is going, or how we wish an escrow would move along more quickly and smoothly, or how long we had to wait in line at the grocery store. What about the fact that we have a "day" to be grateful for - not yesterday, not tomorrow - but "today. And what about the fact that we have an escrow in the first place, especially in today's market. Or what about the fact that we do have the means to buy food unlike those less fortunate.
Growing up in a home where the word "gratitude" was part of my daily ritual, up there with breathing, eating, and sleeping, I find myself struggling with this idea and my children. Todays kids are in a different place in society, where the latest trends are a necessity, the latest clothing, the latest technology is a "must have for this season's fashions!"
In my household, making a list of "thanks" has become more of a daily routine, not just once a year on Thanksgiving. Really showing how much we value one another and appreciating the good already here, is truly when we can be ready for the next step. Then the door will open for new opportunities, new ideas, new ways........more quality, not so much quantity.
