Sites To See In West San Gabriel Valley

You will find the Norton Simon Museum which houses many famous impressionist paintings, ranging from Renoir to Degas.  Among the masterpieces here are no fewer than 45 works by Picasso.

In addition, do not miss a chance to visit the Huntington Library which houses many famous art collections as well as their famous botanical gardens. This library is known as the home of Thomas Gainsborough's iconic The Blue Boy.  The Huntington Libray is free to Southern California visitors 1 Thursday a month.  It is one of the most impressive portrait galleries in the world.

You will also find at the Huntington botonical gardens one of West San Gabriel Valley's most exciting new attractions, the Garden of Flowering Fragrance, commonly known as the Chinese Garden.  This garden was inspired by ancient Chinese traditions.  The garden highlights the already scenic landscapes of the Huntington's surrounding area with man-made ponds, lotus and plum flowers, pagodas, etc. as well as traditional Chinese architecture.

For a different cultural tradition, visit the San Gabriel Mission.  It is the oldest mission in Los Angeles County.  In fact, it is considered to be the birthplace of Ls Angeles. Visitors can take guided tours of the mission building and grounds.  The mission can be found in the city of San Gabriel.

While in Pasadena, you might want to visit the Aztec Motel.  This motel can be found on the corner of Foothill and Magnolia.  It has one of the most unique vintage gems on historic Route 66.  Stained glass and brass railings embellish the Native American-themed lobby of this restored 1925 hotel

In addition, you will find a number of amazing homes in the West San Gabriel Valley. I suggest that you tour the Gamble House, a stunning piece of architecture that defines the arts and crafts movement. I also suggest that you drive the streets of Oakland, Arden and Oak Knoll Avenues in Pasadena or California Blvd. in San Marino where the stree is lined with opulent mansions.

Horticultural treats are in store at The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden which is 127 acres.  It is an arboretum, botanical garden, and historical site nestled into hills near the San Gabriel Mountains, at 301 North Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, California, USA. The cottage located at the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden was made famous by the TV series Fantasy Island.  It is open daily during business hours, for a fee.

If you like hiking, you might which to hike the trails that can be found at The Arroyo Seco, in the hills surrounding the Rose Bowl.  However, other hiking trails can be found in West San Gabriel Valley since the area is at the base to the San Gabriel Mountains.

The Upton Sinclair House, home to activist and author Upton Sinclair, can be found in the city of Monrovia.  It is a National Historic Landmark.

In ddition, the city of Monrovia has been used extensively for filming many TV shows, movies and commercials.  You might be surprised to find that the CBS drama "Picket Fences" was filmed throughout Monrovia.  The Monrovia City Hall began the city hall of the fictional Rome, Wisconsin Sheriff's Office and the nearby United Methodist Church used as the Logan County Courthouse.

Finally, if your a horse racing fan, you will not want to miss Santa Anita Park which is the premium thoroughbred racetrack in the United States and located in Arcadia, a major city in the West San Gabriel Valley.  It is known for offering some of the prominent racing events in the United States during the autumn and in winter months.  Racing at Santa Anita began in 1934 and the track has grown to be considered the best in wintertime horse racing in the United States and around the world.  The horse racing track is home of numerous prestigious horse races including both the Santa Anita Derby and the Santa Anita Handicap.
