Log Home Maintenance - Wood Stains

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with The Webunet Group

Earlier this week I posted a comment on my (other) Log Home blog in response to a readers' question about which product is the best log home stain to use.  The reader had been following my saga of log home maintenance, which I have been performing on my home.

We were both frustrated with this question especially as to how it related to the warranties and guarantees that manufacturers attach to these products.  You can read the original post here. At the end of this post, I invited stain manufacturers to contribute to this thread and tell us what we might be doing wrong and hopefully answer the big question... which stain is better?

Today I got a plesant surprise when one of the major log home stain manufacturers, Sashco, Inc., actually took the time to respond. Such a response sure does demonstrate the power of a community blog.  Read what the log home stain manufacturer had to say here.

Hi Tom,

I find that working with local knowledgeable people like the good folks at Sawtooth Log Restoration really make a huge difference when it comes to getting quality products (stain, Caulk etc) I always tell my customers to contact the professionals that work in stain and log homes instead of the local painters that have started staining (they are cheaper) but they do not know the stain and log home needs like a person in the log home restoration biz.

I work in the Wester North Carolina Mountain Real Estate business and many of my owner are building new log homes. Most of them do not get the best advise from the local painters that have gone into staining and often end up spending a lot more time and money than they should.

Your informantion is great and I will be passing it along.

By the way, visit my web site at www.carolinaland.com to see some of the homes and land I am talking about.

Right now I have a new log cabin with 1.7 ac for only $89,900.  (This is an easy to finish shell)

Thanks again!

Hey Ken, roger on people not always getting "the best advice".  You're right about the staining, just because you know how to hlod a brush and apply paint is not a qualification for treating raw wood properly.

I wish I could move in to that log cabin shell you have listed, that looks like a steal for the money.  Thanks for taking the time to say hello.

Tom

BTW, I like your speaking character on your website - nice touch.
