To-Do Or Not To-Do?

To-do lists have long been the traditional approach to managing schedules and commitments.  But today there's a growing trend to get rid of the to-do list.  Should you?  That depends.

If your to-do list works for you, why throw it out?  But if you're like a lot of people and you use your to-do list as a sort of ongoing, guilt-inducing reminder of things you need to do but keep putting off, then tossing it might be the best move for your emotional well-being.

Here's one way of dealing more efficiently with to-dos:  As each task arises, ask yourself exactly when you're going to do it.  Then write it on your calendar or put it in your electronic organizer, giving yourself an appropriate amount of time to accomplish it.  When the day arrives, you'll look at your calendar and take care of the task at the allotted time rather than letting it loom on your to-do list every day.

we have lists to remind us to look at out lists. sometimes we just have to toss then and start all over.

Pablo:  I have gotten away from using a daily to do list... and need to get myself back into the habit.  For me, I just seem to accomplish more if I keep a running list of things to do.

Just my opinion...but....

I would be lost If I did not put together a daily and weekly TO DO List.

I feel like I am never on top of my to do list though it's better when I schedule time in my calendar.

Pablo, I must disagree about your to-do list post. I use a to-do list to keep my day organized. I don't need the guilt but there is a great feeling of accomplishment when I get through my list...

I love to-do lists.  It gives me satisfaction to cross off each item, and spurs me to do even more because it feels so good to cross them off.  It may seem silly, but when we have such busy lives, with real estate, house and yard work, errands and other duties, anything that keeps us going to get more done is a good thing.

I like to put things on my to-do list. I get a sense of accomplishment when I can cross something off and I don't forget things that need to be followed up on. If it is a small list, I can keep it in my head but the really important things get written down!
