If you are a first time home buyer in the Metro Detroit real estate market one of the keys is to list what YOU WANT IN A MICHIGAN HOME. As a first time home buyer you are going to get advice from many different sources. Co-workers, friends, and family will all be helping you. They all have thoughts and ideas on what make the perfect house and what you should be checking for.
But buying your own home is
like choosing the
type of food at a restaurant.
Do you want fish, pasta, steak, or a salad? It is your preference. What you really want or like may not what the other person at the table wants or likes. It is the same way with buying your first Michigan home. That is why it is important to write down and remember what you want. Those friends, co-worker, and family members are not going to live in your house. But they are going to try to sway you.
One of those friends may love a big back yard, but you may want low maintenance because you travel all the time. Your dad may love all the beautiful woodwork in that 1920's house but you want a modern open layout home from 1990 and later. It is your home, your preferences.
I'm not saying not to listen to them. But take what they are saying and check it against what you really want. Sure that house that you really like backs up to a Sears store.. That may not be the best home for you to buy. Do a gut check. Sit down and talk by yourself without the agent without outside people and decide which home is best for you. We are not moving in with you, it is going to be your Michigan home.
I remember I had one friend of the buyer that went along and flushed every toilet because they bought a house that had one bad toilet. Not something you should be worrying about when choosing a home. Leave that to the inspection phase. A small item like that should not determine whether you buy a home.
So whether you are looking at Livonia homes for sale, Canton real estate, or any Oakland County homes for sale make a list of what you want in a home. Remember it is your home!
