Overview of Rural Development housing requirements

OVERVIEW OF HOUSING REQUIREMENTS Must be in a rural area as determined by USDA Rural Development For new or existing site built single family homes, modular home, and approved condos Poor quality homes do not meet program objectives of providing decent, safe, and sanitary housing and are not eligible Homes with in-ground swimming pools are not eligible, except in declared disaster and contiguous parishes, and on a case-by-case basis in other parishes. Land value generally cannot exceed 30% of total value, however, exceptions may be granted under certain circumstances. Property must be contiguous to and have direct access from a street, road, or driveway. Streets or roads must have an all weather surface. If property is in a subdivision, the subdivision must be approved by local, regional, state, or federal agency.
