Which GPS Device Is Best For Realtors?

By

I currently have navigation in my car but I refuse to pay the $399 for an upgrade dvd from the car company.  So I'm looking into buying a portable GPS so that I can use it for showing and also when I go on trips.  Do any of you have any suggestions of which GPS system would be the best to use?  Also, if it included free updates to the maps, then that would be great also.  Thanks

The new portable garmins are awesome -- they come fully loaded and you can get them for around $200.   My manager got one from Staples - but others carry them as well.

Portables require updates as well.  My suggestion to you, just keep using it.  I haven't updated mine in two years, and it still rarely gets anything wrong.  Sometimes it says turn right on Main St, and now it say XYZ St, but I just turn anyway.

I've got a Garmin 260. I bought it from eBay or Amazon.com (can't remember) as a new item. I believe I paid under $200. I've been very pleased with it but like any of these they aren't always current or correct.

A Map....that's the cheapest system out there.  Cheers!

It depends on what features you want or need. Do you need blue tooth for hands free calling on your cell phone? Do you have several stops you need to make and want it to sort the best route? Do you want to speak the address to the device and have it drive there? Obviously the more features and bells and whistles you want the higher the price. If you just need the basic tell me how to get there, then most of the devices you want will be inexpensive and Walmart or Staples will have several to choose from. I like Walmart's website because you can compare the devices and features on each one. Plus there is a helpful user review that tells what they like or dislike about the product.

We have a Garmin and we love it. We did a ton of research and settled on the Garmin. Check out prices online that is where you will get the best deal.

I bought the Magellan - the better one with the features - can't think of the model # - a few years ago but I love it.  I have traveled all over with it and it has done a really great job of finding places that would have been impossible without it.

The navi that is built in to the car is nice, but the portable Magellan travels well and you can use it someone else's car as needed. I usually throw it in my briefcase when I am traveling.

You will need to update any GPS every few years to get the streets in for new communities etc in it for showing real estate, but the main routes are there.

I am going to purchase the new Magellan with the traffic update built in.  Traffic capability will require a subscription but the first 3 months are free.  I use my satellite radio for the traffic updates, but only major cities are available. Very beneficial - you can bail out before you get caught up in the mess.

I priced the Magellan at both Costco and BJs and will likely get it there with a warranty policy on it just in case for about an extra $20.

My friend has a Garmin, and he loves it.  I just liked the Magellan because it had more features. I think you can play with both of them at the store and see which you find the easiest to use.

I have the super Garmen, $780.00, and love it!  My husband has a tom tom and thinks it is good enough, but, trys to borrow mine:)  It is the you get what you pay for deal, I think:)  How much you use it and liking more tools makes the difference in choice.  I take mine on trips, too!  ps.  Sam's Club has the best prices!

It's a Good Life!

I got the Garmin NUVI because you can put in several addresses and it will sort them out to the quickest route.  Not very many do that.

I use a Garmin and love it.  It's an older model (I've had it for years) and when I'm ready to get a new one it definitely will be a Garmin.

Greetings from Virginia Beach!!!

I purchased the portable (Tom Tom) since I have 2 vehicles, great flexibilty there!  I love the Tom Tom, got it 2 years ago for about $200.  The next one I get will have the capabilty of multiple addresses/shortest routes - really helpful with the BPO side of my business.

Warmest regards and good luck!!!

Morning,

You probably have made a decision by now but my vote is for the Garmin.  I have had both Magellan and Garmin and now actually own 2 Garmins.  My latest Garmin is the little portable Novi and it is great for walking around in a city too, especially Vegas!

Have a great day.

$399 seems like a lot for an upgrade cd, but from my experience I would still rather use the factory navigation over a portable.  Here is a blog I wrote on it

I have a Garmin. Only problem is I bought it over 3 years ago when the price on them was still very high. I paid $1000 for it. It has been a good unit and the company is good about service, however you do have to pay for mao upgrades. I don't think there's any way around that.

I ended up getting a portable Magellan for $75 dollars.  It normally sells for $159.  Here's the special that I used:

Dell now has the Magellan Roadmate 1200 Portable GPS System for just $149.99, before entering 50% off coupon code LZRK84LR619C4X and lowering the price to just $74.99, easily the lowest price available. Featuring a 3.5" touchscreen LCD display and voice-guided navigation, the Roadmate 1200 comes pre-loaded with maps of the US, including millions of points of interest (fuel, hotels, ATMs).

I'm very happy with this device.  I actually ordered two.  One for me and one as a house warming gift on a house I sold :)
