GREAT GERMAN FOOD...IN CONNECTICUT

EAST SIDE RESTAURANT

131 Dwight Street New Britain, CT 06051

There are so many Italian, Chinese, and fast food restaurants around in Connecticut. There is only ONE great German Restaurant and that is the East Side Restaurantin New Britian CT.  This restaurant is very family friendly, and they are always in a good mood... maybe it is all the beer????

I've been here a few times, and it never seizes to amaze me on how wonderful the food is.  The Sauerbraten and the German Pot Roast are my favorites.  If you are looking to be entertained while eating this restaurant won't let you down.  The backroom is for banquets and large parties, there are  100's of glass beer steins hanging from the ceiling, and if you order a BIG beer you will hear "Ticki Tocki Ticki Tocki... Hoy! Hoy! Hoy!"

You feel at home here, and at the same time feel like you are in Germany, and you didn't even need a passport to get there.  If you are looking for a change and a unique restaurant, I would go to New Britain, CT to the East Side Restaurant.  You can always check them out a head of time, East Side Restaurant.

George.. You have to take your wife there one evening for dinner.. make it on her birthday.  Why?  They will give her a *BIG* hat to wear.  The hat looks like a cake.  They have lots of hats for people to wear, and I think once you have one of their *big* beers, you might not mind wearing one.

Debi.. If you ever go to a German Restaurant then, you should try their sauerbrauten.. Hmmm, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Hey Valerie! Really great review. It's funny that there isn't more German restaurant's around. I can only think of one in Charlotte the Rheinland Haus on Park Road, and it's been there for years.

Teresa, I agree with you, why aren't there more German restaurants.. there are so many fast foods, Chinese, Mexican and Italian... why is German food left out?

Valerie, I am half German and I just love German food. I bet they have great potato pancakes. I wish we had more here in Jersey.

Okay, lady's make it a third, I'm German too... and I like potato's too! Maybe German people are more into different trades instead of being into foods per say?

Teresa.. I think you hit the nail on the head... most Germans are probably in some form of sales.  What do you think of that idea?

Okay, Valerie it's Teresa not Tanya, but that's okay I think I like Tanya better. I will let you in on a secret (I have never liked my name). When I was in elementary school I was always changing it!!! I guess my best chance at changing it would have been when I got married and move from Charlotte to Lake Norman.... But I didn't.

I guess you have had some day:) Get ready for that closing though!

East Side is one of our top 3 places to eat, and we go there often. The jaegerschnitzel is to die for and if you like chicken or veal parmesan, the portion is huge and probably the best I've tasted. And of course the beer is THE BEST! Ticky tacky, ticky tacky, hoy hoy hoy!

Pat & Wayne.. What I can't believe is that there isn't more German restaurants around.  There are so many Chinese, Mexican and Italian, but German there are far and few between.  I love the muchies (as I call them) that are they on the table when you arrive.  Now that I've been thinking about this place for the last few minutes, I'm now craving German Food.  Go figure.  Ticky tacky, ticky tacky, hoy hoy hoy.. right back at you.  I think I might go there for dinner tonight.
