I'm just new to this blogging thing so bare with me please. The comment i would like to say is about helping home owner to sell their homes sometimes cost us a staging job. I have recently had two great perspective clients that asked for my help. The contact was from a real estate personhere in Brantford. I went to meet the first client to give them a proposal of the things that would help sell their home. They had already purchase another home and needed the work done fast! Upon my first impressions I found that that the houses front porch posts were not even attached to the concrete!, the shower stall in the main bathroom had greatly deteriorated and need to be addressed ASAP, the upstairs bedroom were all in fluorescent colors and not to mention it was up to me to let them now they ready needed a tidy up ! Well I said all that to say... these jobs were outside of my scope. However i have trades that I can recommended , so I did. by the time that the trades were done their work the clients didn't have any money left for staging! I don't make any money off of the trades I bring in ( I don't really know how to do that ?) so I wished them all the best and moved on. I believe that this really did help the home owners even though it cost me a job. perhaps they will consider me for the next project! If any one has anything that would help me understand the way this all works i would be very thankful. I have done decorating and home staging for over 20 years ( for free ) and just this year I started a business so I need seasoned people to point me in the right direction!
Hi Wanda
Firstly, just wanted to say what wonderful furniture you have advertised, I plan to visit next time I am in Brantford.
Here's my idea.. Its the real estate agents that you should approach. Suggest you team with them for client referrals. They see the need for staging and so they recommend you. The client agrees do you have or offer a hourly rate? The client pays for that initial consultation and if they then want your suggested fix ups you pass along your recommend trades. Now, as your paired with their Real estate agent it is from their commission you would earn a fate fee plus a staging fee from the client. While you build you business calculate the most attractive rates possible especially on the client end. Home staging is still a new tool to most sellers. The agent gets to add you to their sales blurb an added tool for most. As the business start to build so expand where your fee's come from ie passing along business to the trades and/or continue to barter, the trades recommend you when ever they see a need.
Hope this gives you food for thought and good luck!
I am a wannabe stager. lol
