Is my wife becoming an Active Rain widow?

Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate Inc 610-225-7400 PA License - AB067198

So, I have to ask my self am I becoming addicted? Each day if I have a moment to spare I click on my Active Rain link in Favourites. A quick fix of reading and commenting on a few blogs...there are so many directions to go, so little time, so much to read.

Luckily, Trudy, no she really does not look like that, this is the true image!

Trudy is also addicted to her own sites, being a Marine Mom she is constantly checking out sites to do with the Marines and is online with clients, on the MLS, etc. She is not into blogging.

So, I can get my fix on AR, but is it too much? What is too much, there is so much good stuff here. Staging, mortgage information, opinions, Broker Bryant, and so  much more...I am sure I am missing something, so when she is out, I'll just have to get online and....

OH NO! Now, I see today my son is also checking out AR, is it contagious? Maybe it is genetic.

Well, I've got to go, a client is calling, don't they realize I am busy! If I can just get every agent in the region addicted, yes that is it. mass marketing to the 32,000 agents in my MLS, if they are spending all their time on AR then their phones will go unanswered, but no that will mean I will have to break myself away to talk to people and will I be able to survive without my fix?

How do you all cope?

The Billie Tutas, aka the lovely wife, posed this same question in a blog she wrote many months ago.

This was my answer still applies except the 4000 emails a day is probably more as are the inbound link requests................

"There is a hospital on the west coast, and they may be back east as well, I don't know, called Schick Shadel. It is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation hospital. One of the treatments they use is counter-conditioning therapy. Basically they take an addict and they force them to consume near death levels of a substance to the point that they truly believe they never want to use again. From that point then, they begin the real treatment of overcoming an addiction they now truly believe they want to kick.

So we have to figure out how to bring you to near death levels of ActiveRain Addiction. Hmmmm, of course we would have to bring Matt and Caleb in on this but they could probably have you manage the email contact logs for every email sent off the system for about a day. After looking at 4000 emails dealing with everything from out of country investors (they want to give you $5MILLION US DOLLARS for helping them move $30M) to the invitations, to the accepted invites, to the verification of activating your profile you may be close.

Next of course they could have you monitor all the inbound link requests. After 200 of these a day from members myspace profiles and pages buried deep within their sites and the occasional random page linking to the always present Viagra or Ciallis ad, you would surely be close to death.

As a capper they could then have you read through and score all of the 100 or so blogs posted every day and score them based on if the agents are posting them to the right sections or not. Of course you would get to handle the feedback requests as well that want to know why they didn't get 400 points for posting the blog with only a link to the latest newsletter their title rep sent them.

I would guess by this point you would be REALLY ready to admit that you needed help for the addiction. If not they could have you do it again the next day.......and it would give Matt and Caleb a day or two off.........:)"

That will help you kick your addiction!!!

Nick,  Accept your addiction and know that it is OK.  Make it part of your business plan so you can rationalize the time you spend on it.  If it's part of your job, then the guilt goes away even when you are having too much fun.

I stay up late.  I don't want to take from my normal real estate so I'm finding I can deal with a little less sleep.  Not a whole lot less sleep just a little.

Bob, Thanks for the comments, you put it in perspective, I still seem to be Real estate focused, not addicted.

Tim, Thanks as well, if it gets worse I will just go with it.

Marchel, Yes that is an option, it will also allow my wife to sleep without my snoring.
