According to the U.S. Fire Administration there are an average of 15,500 dryer fires in the U.S. with an approximate $88 million in property, damage 20 deaths and 370 injuries annually. "Failure to clean" was cited as the leading factor contributing to clothes dryer fires in residential buildings. Similar reports by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, (CPSC), confirm annual maintenance of dryers and dryer vents as a home safety issue lacking consumer awareness.

According to Fazil, consumer response to DVW has been positive; although a big part of what she does is educate the consumer. "When consumers find their dryer taking more than one cycle to dry a load, they assume it's mechanical when the real problem is lint accumulation in the dryer vent causing the dryer to work inefficiently and become susceptible to a dryer fire," says Fazil.
