The tale of two shoe salesmen

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Fort McMurray

There is a tale about these two shoe salesmen who travel to a third world country in search of new business opportunities.

One man calls his wife the moment he lands, telling her, "Honey, I'm coming back home. There's no hope here. Nobody here is wearing shoes, so there's no one to sell to." He boards the next flight home.

The second man calls his wife and says, "Honey, you wouldn't believe what I found here. There is so much opportunity. No one here is wearing shoes. I can sell to the whole country!"

There's opportunity everywhere. When we have a consciousness of expecting the magic to happen, it will happen. We'll find the right people, we'll move in the right circles, we'll ‘bump' into the right solutions. It all starts with that opening in the mind.

Are you ready to seize your opportunity?

I have heard a similar story, and the truth is some see an empty glass while others see the opportunity to fill it with their favorite beverage. Steve

I feel both salesman saw the opportunity, but one was lazy and the other was proactive.  Nothing upsets me more than when someone says "I can't."  The first salesman quit.  I agree, there is opportunity in almost every situation, the question one must ask oneself is if the obstacles blocking the opportunity are worth taking on.  The second salesman identified the opportunity, and chose to take on the obstacle of convincing these people that they need shoes.  The first step in achieveing sales success is seeing the opportunity, followed by identifying obstacles, choosing to take on these obstacles, figuring out how to conquer the obstacles, and executing the solution to take advantage of the opportunity.  The second salesman had the mentality to succeed.
