I am originally from the west coast, so I am not accustomed to all the quirky sayings that people in the south have. My best friend Sarah grew up in Virginia and since knowing her I have visited her hometown of Dublin, VA and have been introduced to a whole new language.
Here are some examples:
1. A toboggan is not a sled you ride in, it is something you wear on your head, what us westerners would call a beanie.
2. A buggy is not something horses pull, it is something you put groceries in, what us westerners would call a shopping cart.
3. Barbeque is not an event, it is a dish (pulled pork). What westerners call barbeque, southerners call a cookout.
As more sayings come to me, I will be sure to post them.
