On February 22, 2001 before a crowd of supporters and backed by 153 horsewomen representing the 153 honorees currently inducted in the Hall of Fame, dignitaries broke ground for the new home to the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. The museum is the only one in the world dedicated to honoring and documenting the lives of women who have distinguished themselves while exemplifying the pioneer spirit of the American West. |

The museum was originally founded in 1975 in Hereford, Texas, and moved to Fort Worth in 1994. It has become a major resource about western women, with its research library and over 3,000 rare photographs. |
The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame opened a new 33,000 square foot facility on a 1.5 acre site in the Fort Worth Cultural District in June 2002. Here, with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation's new museum, a new western-oriented wing of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and the Will Rogers Memorial Center the area will be known as the Western Heritage Center.
The new museum features five gallery areas, a multi-purpose theater with state-of-the-art audio visual equipment; interactive information kiosks; a hands-on children's area; a flexible exhibit area to display traveling art shows and exhibits from other museums; a research library; a catering kitchen; and a retail store.
All of this...the wonderful dreams...the powerful stories...the courageous women. That's what the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is all about. To educate, entertain, and inspire all who visit. What's more, it will make everyone ( young and old, men and women, boys and girls ) realize that they too can become legends.
