Virus on Laptop!

For the last couple of days, the DSL connection inside of the offices have been up and down.  It seemed that every time I wanted to access the Internet to change a listing, add a blog, or check on the updates to www.Paris911.com, it was down.  I was a bit upset.  But before I reacted too hastily, I contacted the building super to ask him if he has been having any problems with the Internet connection, or has it just been my office.  He told me it is not localized and that the entire building was infected.

It kept happening, and the super came to my office and told me a virus named "joshua" was infecting the way in which computers in the building could access the Internet.  I said "joshua", that is interesting, that is what I named my wireless laptop computer.  So he asked me to shut off "joshua", I complied, and the system in the building came back up immediately.  I named my laptop, being funny, after the super-computer in War Games, a move that came out back in the early 1980's.  The computer in the movie almost launched a thermo-nuclear attack that could have started world war III.  So, I thought naming my laptop "joshua" would be kind of funny.  Until it became bad...

So, I have a local company checking into it to see what they can find, negative results as of now, all I know is that the building and Internet connection is fine since I sent Joshua to the doctor.

Be Safe Out There...

p.s. I have all of the updated virus software, and the adware blocking software, but still I became infected.  I will have to see what other protection is out there in the future. (grinning)

I had some recent virus problems myself. I had to reinstall windows and forgot to install my virus software. I had 32 viruses...lol....it's insane what is on the web these days.

I wish I was not so dependent on technology.  But that is the case.  I remember, not so long ago, getting the Multiple Listings delivered to our offices.  Huge dot matrix print-outs that were bound.  When someone would want to look for homes, we would go through that printout by city and price.  That was only the beginning, we then had to contact the agent to see if the property was still available.  At that time, again in the not so distant past, we never trusted faxes.  We sat down with the listing agent, his or her clients, with our buyers and sometimes the lender and discussed their counter and our original offer.

But now, we contend with viruses, spam, cookies, and traces that auto install when looking around the web.  Even when we are just verifying that we have all of the bells and whistles turned on with our own listings.

Thanks for responding, it is very much appreciated.

Naming your computer Joshua -- thats pretty good.. I love it.. I guess the computer lived up to its expectations.. I'm glad you shut it down before wolrd war 3 was traced to a law enforcement officer..  Whew.. Good Save there pal..

Hey I remember getting rate sheets by fax and doing things the old fashion way too... Viruses suck, but working without computers is even worse... I don't know what I'd do without my laptop, email, and blog...

Hope you got Joshua worked out..

Martin

Very refreshing, changing in mid stream.  Your confidence inspires me and I wish you and your paris911 business the best.

I am a self-made business success.  I changed after years of being a trauma nurse, and I have never looked back.  If you have the focus and goal in your mind, you will never lose.

I'll be watching.

Connor, hope he gets healed. It is crazy to look back and remember what life was like before computers. I was just thinking the other day of how I made palns with people before cell phones. I finally realized, we all just met at the same place every day at the same time and then headed out from there. I think I did more face-to-face with my friends back then....

Hey John, thanks for the wishes.  I think we beat it.  I feel sort of special having something that even the big boys did not know existed.

Onto bigger and better things though.  If I could get the computer to turn on...LOL

 See ya soon Brother.
