San ELijo Hills in San Marcos CA

San Elijo Hills, in the south west corner of San Marcos, is a highly-rated master planned community on the hills of North County San Diego (actually the highest point in the county at over 3,000 feet above sea level).

Located about 34 miles from San Diego, and a short distance from Rancho Santa Fe Road, San Elijo Hills  was awarded the Master Planned Community of the Year in 2002 by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The population is around 6,500.

Experience the San Elijo Hills lifestyle in this short slideshow:

Established in 2000, San Elijo Hills consists of more than 3000 homes in a number of different villages, all with easy access to a traditional Town Center (reminiscent of communities in other parts of California and back East).

Because of the location on the hills, many homes have dramatic distant views of the ocean and panorama extending for miles to the south. And the views from Double Peak Park at the highest point nearby are incredible, with lots of hiking trails.

The vision of San Elijo Hills was to provide a self-contained "town" with a feeling of connectedness among its residents and the services and amenities in the local area.

The elementary and middle schools were built when the community was developed. There are a number of shops, services and a restaurant in the Town Center, a post office, a gas station, small "food mart," and an Albertsons Grocery Store, with more stores to be added.

There is even a Community Director, whose job is to assist residents in planning events and activities.

The main shopping area of San Marcos is perhaps a 10 minute drive, with a wide array of services, shops and restaurants. Since the community borders Carlsbad, there is easy access to the shopping, restaurants, golf, tourist attractions and beaches of Carlsbad.

Homes for sale in San Elijo Hills include condos, townhomes and detached single family homes, some in gated communities, and apartments (Copper Creek), many of which are of Mediterranean, Tuscan or Spanish style, however traditional American architecture is also evident.

I was looking (or waiting) for this.  Excellent work, Jeff.  You really are putting out amazing stuff.  You should put a map together with click links to each one of your posts about the communities

Thanks, Brian. I enjoy these profiles although they can be time consuming. Sometimes getting out to do the photos is the hardest part!

Great stuff you are doing! I hope you are saving me one of those California Cove Masterpiece @ Symphony Homes. Their models are amazing.  I am originally from San Diego (working in San Jose, CA) and would like to move into my dream home down there in five years to be closer to my family. Maybe you'll be the listing agent on one of them ;)

Jessica - Thanks you. I apperciate the compliment. San Elijo Hills is a prettyneat town, and there is a diversity of hosuing to choose from. The Cove properties are gorgeous, adnt eh views are some of the most amazing in Southern California, as they are perched on top of the highest point in San Diego County. Of course that comes as a rpice, but given the size and view they are a pretty good deal as compared to homes right along the coast. Come on down!!

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS - As you featured San Elijo Hills, I looked at the slideshow.  For some reason, I do not recall this area. This is the exact style of homes I like.  Mediterranean, Tuscan, and Spanish are my favorite styles.  I know I mentioned this before but you can't find a lot of homes like this in Sedona.

Hi Sheri:

SEH is built on the highest point (I believe) in San Marcos  and was bult over a number of years. It's a popular community with its own Village Center and a couple of schools. There are some stunning views.
