Is your dryer taking longer and longer to dry your clothes? Did your clothes used to be dry after running one cycle but now it takes 1 ½ to 2 cycles or more? Does your dryer sometimes shut down during a cycle and can only be restarted after it cools down? Has your dryer ever had to have a fuse replaced that stopped the heating circuit function?
If your answer is "yes" to any of the above questions, you may assume that the dryer needs replaced, but the remedy may be easier than you think! The most likely reason for the conditions mentioned above is that the dryer vent is clogged or blocked with lint accumulation. If the dryer cannot efficiently expel the hot humid air, it will run longer than is necessary. This not only affects the length of your drying times, but also increases your utility bill whether gas or electric. This also causes more wear on your dryer because it has to run longer than normal. Over time this decreases the life of the dryer.
Lastly, the most important reason to have your dryer vent inspected is the potential fire hazard caused by the dryer running hotter than normal.
