Madison County, Georgia Property Owners May Have 2 Tax Bills in 2007!

The Madison County government in Georgia has fallen more than a year behind schedule in its taxing process because of delays in approving the tax digest. To date, the bills for 2006 have not been issued.
"Unfortunately, for the taxpayers we will probably receive two tax bills in 2007," wrote county assessor board chairman Samantha Garland in a letter to citizens published in The Main Street News.

Residential property owners who pay tax escrow with their monthly mortgage payment shouldn't feel the pinch to severely, however there may be shortfalls due to assessments of property values being higher.  However, property owners who don't pay a monthly escrow may face financial hardships this year.

The Madison County Tax Assessor's office has been plagued with issues in the past few years leading to shortfalls in receiving tax revenues as scheduled which has caused the Madison County Board of Education to have to resort to borrowing funds to operate the schools systems.

Maybe they will eventually get it together.  This is causing super confusion for attorneys and lenders who are trying to figure escrow.   It is hard to explain to clients as well.  Hopefully it will get resolved soon and next years will be on time.
