The Oregon Coast Aquarium located in Newport, Oregon, is great fun for all ages and I can prove it! This aquarium was so much fun that I became like a little kid myself when I got to pet stingrays and sharks.
This easy day trip from Tigard, Oregon, is one that if you haven't done it, I suggest you do it soon! Now it may seem expensive, but if you live in Oregon, I do suggest you buy the family pass for $80 as it was $56 just for my wife, kids and me to all get in. It makes it worth it the next time we go. (It nearly cuts the cost in half.)
As you can see from the photos, that there is most everything at this aquarium and I'm betting that is why it was put in the top 10 of zoos and aquariums list to see in the United States.
Now, I've gone to a lot of places, and one thing I find frustrating is when I get there and find it closed. Not the aquarium, it won't happen here! The aquarium is open everyday except Christmas. You won't get down there and find it closed on a Monday, like some of the other Museums around the area.
One of the things the Oregon Coast Aquarium was famous for was it was the home of Keiko the Killer Whale for 3 or 4 years. You may remember Keiko as the whale from the "Free Willy" films in the 90s. They rehabilitated him so he could be re-released back in to the wild in 1992. The sad news is the animal rights activists that fought to get him released back to the wild didn't expect him to shun his own species to hang out with humans. But in 1993 he died of a sudden illness and just couldn't be saved. He ended up being a huge embarrassment to the animal rights activists and their fight saying that he would live longer in the wild than he would in captivity.
