The Impact of Having a Complicated Web Site Can Be Devastating

By

I heard a powerful statistic today -- 50% of your web site audience FALLS OFF after every click they make on your web site!  How much work is it for a visitor to find the listings they are looking for or to find the home valuation they are looking for?

Think about that and look at your web site -- Can your web site visitors get to the information they are looking for QUICKLY and EASILY -- Don't create work for them.

For example, would you rather read a 1000 word essay or 10 blocks of 100 words with photos to explain your story.

Do you have a place on your site for clients to log-in and get information in a confidential way about THEIR transaction?

Think about how your visitors become traffic which end up as leads and the end result of calling you or emailing you to do business together.

A short post but an important message to get across.

Taking Scott's comment to heart, I suggest

- no FLASH intro's
- no "Click here to Enter" page
- no mandatory giving of "registration" info just to look around
- top-of-page images should not be so large as to require scrolling down to get somewhere interesting
etc.

Thanks, Scott for the statistic.  Do you have a quotable source for it?

A seminar on website conversion pounded home the point with documented test results that clarity is the goal for websites. The consume must be able to see easily how to get to the information.

I would think that complexity would impact clarity.

Simple is good.  It is also important that you have reasons and reminders for visitors to contact you.  Make it easy for them to inquire about a listing, but most definitely make it easy for them to look at the current inventory.
