"My wife she still loves me-
Even though I abuse her.
I've been having an affair-
With a random computer."
From the KISS song 2000 man.
I live in a quiet place and in my small town there is a utopian community called Jubilee Partners. They are an off-shoot of the people of Americus, GA who started Habitat for Humanity. They have a farm on the edge of town that is self sufficient. Every time I go there, I'm tempted to chuck it all and take up with them growing blueberries. They really live a beautiful life out there, except... no Internet. When I'm at Jubilee I feel a little like the snake in the garden of Eden. My point is they have a great life in hard times, living apart from modernity. In some ways better, but just a little bit harder and less convenient.
I've often thought that my business would be better if I took all my computers and gave them to the goodwill. There is an old agent in our market who has never used a computer and is one of the very top producers. She does it all with a phone and a Filofax. I wish that I had done everything on paper my first year in the business.
But giving up the computer would be slightly more difficult than kicking meth. I have made the first step though:
My name is Lincoln and I am internet junkie.
