Where are they?

In this most recent session, the Maryland legislature is attempting to tax services in order to increase the state's coffers. This tax would not only tax commissions, but also services such as: towing service, haircuts, escort service, surveys, termite treatment, title searches, etc (If I am not mistaken, legal services are NOT a part of this). As you can see, this tax could significantly increase the cost to purchase and sell homes.

In a "show of force", over 600 Realtors(r) rallied in Annapolis (Maryland's state capital) to demonstrate our opposition to the bill. It was a wonderful thing to see that many Realtors(r) in one place united against the tax. One troubling observation was that those agents that are making literally hundreds of thousands of dollars annually were missing from the demonstration. Obviously, this is a generalization, but there were alot of "top producers" that were too busy to attend and left that work to others so they could continue to work on their business.

The bill never made it out of committee, but will definitely be on the agenda next year. The cohesiveness of the Realtor(r) organization was refreshing! Hopefully, next year there will be 7000 at that rally!
