LinkedIn Launches Group Discussions

Services for Real Estate Pros with RealSatisfied

linkedin discussionFor a long time, groups on LinkedIn have served very little purpose.

Today, LinkedIn finally added a few features that will make your LinkedIn group connections more powerful, including advanced search, but the most important of the features is Discussions. When we launched the Real Estate Shows group, this is the feature I was looking forward to the most, so I'm happy to finally be able to use it.

Check it out for yourself.

Patrick... I noticed the same thing. It was interesting to see which of the groups had NOT introduced discussions yet.

Elaine... I feel similarly about LinkedIn. It has a different personality. Distinctly professional.

Great news re LinkedIn.  Facebook is good exposure but getting irritating.

Thanks for pointing that out.  I had joined a couple of groups and was very surprised that served no apparent purpose.  Hadn't noticed a discussion feature was added.   Thanks!  Now I'm logging off AR and onto LinkedIn.

Facebook is just a more mature version of msypace. Linkedin is much more professional in nature and can give a realtor true investment potential, something we often gamble with on networks outside of Active Rain. What you get more of when entering a network such as facebook is exposure. For reference, These stats show facebook has almost 5x the number of respondants and viewers on it's network compared to linkedin. Myspace, conversely has even more but it's on a downward trend. I still feel, linkedin is the premier professional social network which could rival facebook one day.

btw: Found something interesting, while typing this.  If you type in faecbook.com it takes you to google.com instead.  Smart move on google's part.

I figured that this was coming soon.  I think LinkedIn is much more powerful than many realize.

Thanks Jeff. I don't really DO anything on Linked In. I have viewed it just as a place to have a prominent online resume. But perhaps the groups element will change how I view it, or its usefulness to me.

It's gotten to the point where I think we need an assistant just to keep us dwelled up, linked in, face out...etc., etc., etc.

Jeff,

Thanks for the post. I bumped up my level of participation in LinkedIn, before knowing about the added feature. This could be very good. Thanks for the heads up.

William, thanks for stopping by. Yes, it's a nice addition. They need to give admins the ability to moderate the discussions, but it's a great first step.

'Bout time, wouldn't you say?  For so long, LinkedIn groups served no other purpose than to assemble as many group badges on your profile.  Now they'll actually have some utility, allowing group members to interact directly, exchanging ideas and having meaningul discussions.

We don't need no stinking badges...

Aloha Jeff,

I'm relatively new to LinkedIn but I noticed that the groups were a little difficult to actively communicate through. With the new discussion forum perhaps I can gain more from them. Thanks

Peace,
