Real Estate and Hurricanes

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams

I had a good question last night. A lady that I'm working with asked if she had to sign papers to buy her new home with the possibility of Hurricane Gustav washing it away. In real estate "all bets are off" once a named storm enters the Gulf of Mexico. Insurance companies will not issue policies and title companies will not close contracts once a storm enters the gulf. Contracts are extended with the hopes that the property is unchanged.
