 Security Bank Searcy Ar

What a treat to put up this old picture.  These two ladies worked at a bank in Searcy Arkansas and there was a contest to name the bank.  Reportedly the one on the right won the contest with the name Security Bank.  This lady also is the mother of Anita, who comments on my blogs and gives us additional information about our city.

First Security Bank, as it is now named, stretches out over the whole city block but they are restoring this old building to resemble the way it was originally.  I love this picture and it was sent to me by Don and Paula.  So look at this old picture, probably from the 40's, and compare it to the way it is being restored.

And, ladies only, look at the legs.  The legs appear to be housed in cotton stockings.  They probably sagged and that's why the ladies fell heart and soul in love with nylon hose when they came along!

That banks' first name was The People's Bank.   Thanks for the picture, Barbara, and ESPECIALLY for the view of the stockings.  I had never noticed that before.  You really have an eye for details, and a camera to prove it.

Anita, thanks for the input.  Wasn't your mother lovely?  And look at their stances.  The same!  Just as people always have wanted to conform!  You have to have a pretty big blow up to notice the stockings.  Is the year known?

With all the conflict in the world, I find it amazing that people can't see that we are all dancing the same jig----we just put different "clothes" on it.

Charles, do you think you could put your mug in my blog so that perhaps I could get a feature?  You're making Steve famous!  Your statement sounds pretty profound!

Do you think that is all it would take?  I'd be glad to help.  How about a picture of me as a bank-robber or a cotton hose salesman?

I think a zoot suit would be better and more appropriate for the period.

That lady is quite a Searcy historian and is almost a centenarian. Paula and I love visiting her when we can.

She loves to tell stories of her childhood. On her 98th Birthday, she started telling stories of her childhood. She told about one year at the annual revival and town meeting.

“Everyone came into town in their wagons and long-bed trucks, their wives and kids. There was a stage full of holes, and a pump organ I played. There were lanterns hanging in the trees and it was just a grand party.

“Went on late, too. I remember one year, all the little kids had been filed away to sleep in their families’ wagons and trucks, with the grown-ups down at the platform singing their hearts out. Some of us older kids went out and started re-arranging the kids: you know, the Smith kids in the Jones wagon and like that.

“Nobody noticed till they got home LATE that night that they had the wrong young-uns. It made for a long night, with people heading all over that part of the county trying to track their youngsters down.”

What a lovely lady!

Paula and Don, that story is hilarious!  Imagine moving kids around and the parents not knowing until they got home!  If that happened today, and it couldn't because no one would leave their kid alone in a wagon or truck, there would be lawsuits galore.

You'll have to tell us more old stories.
