To Blog??? or Not to Blog??? That is the Question....

Some could call it uninformed....I would refer to myself as "unimpressed."  Yes I am the infamous "Ben" referenced in a post from an associate of mine, in a blog titled Blogging is Stupid and a Waste of Time.  While I myself haven't utilized AR (I have already learned the slang, lol) I can honestly say that I don't have an opinion either way on its impact on our real estate business.  This is why I brought the challenge to... we'll call him "Randal" to bring me back a signed listing agreement that was generated from AR (or other various blogs) OR that was generated from an action or activity that was inspired by AR (or other various blogs).  Which he has yet to accomplish at this point in time.

It is a great advantage however how this recent flurry of intra-office internet blogging and marketing has strengthed several agent's position on major search engines.  While "Randal" was responsible enough not to toot his own horn toooooo much... he does have at the very least... one valid point.  Search engine placement is one of the most important marketing tools a real estate agency, broker, and agent can utilize in their work and it is to their great benefit if these placements are at minimal or no cost to them.  And if the general result of all this 'blogging' is an increase in search engine placement for agents in our office, then I am in instant fan and perhaps a new convert.

Of course the other reason for blogging is expression. There is another agent in our office who has reaped the benefits of relationships built from AR, the aforementioned Kristy O'Keefe whose blogs inspired "Randal."  If you read her blogs, you can tell that she is not only selling her self, her services, and her community, but expressing her thoughts and feelings on her 'flavor of the day.'

In general, I am not a man who eats his words very often, but in a case like this I am more than willing to if this 'blogging' turns out to not only be profitable, but fun at the same time!

Ben, I just received yet another lead from my ActiveRain profile yesterday. A young couple looking to sell their current residence, and wanting to buy some land to build. I have two transactions currently underway with clients that found me through my involvment here on ActiveRain. It is a lot of fun, but it pays too!

Blogging is very profitable.  I've earned 3 clients from this site, since I started about a month and a half ago.  Without going into details about my commission, suffice it to say that it was worth the hours I put in.  Keep at it Ben!

I would like to welcome you "Ben" to AR. I think it's great that you finally came around (before you know it you'll have a myspace page), it's nice to have another office member from Weichert Realtors, Unum Properties on here! Now, if only Laurie would except my invitation to join AR...

Honestly, when I first joined my main goal was to post meaningful information, and to pass certain people in points (you know who you are)! Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition! I am now starting to see the results of posting quality information, as I have received my first lead off a blog I posted to localism.com. Not to mention the benefits of interaction with others in the real estate business. I honestly think being active on AR is not only productive, but enjoyable as well!
