Many of us sit in front of a computer more days out of the week than we do a television, well at least I do. I'm a part-time realtor, fairly new to the real estate industry but well educated about the market. Most of my days are spent in front of a computer because I am a full-time Computer IT Professional. Most would ask how do you have time to work a 50 hr week and network to build a successful real estate career. Well I'll tell you how. The same way that a person would call your real estate office for assistance, or look in the yellow pages for a carpenter, is basically the same way that the internet can work for you. You deal personally with a potential client the same way that you would over the phone. Many realtors setup websites and advertise them, but the idea is to make more money than you spend. So as an agent you want to join as many free communities as you possibly can. This is free advertisement people, if you are not using the internet to advertise or network then you are missing out on a great opportunity. Active Rain is a very good start, but broaden your selection by becoming a member of other communities, even the non-realtor related ones. I have gathered 3 clients from the internet alone who inquire my services. Now if I ask for 3 referrals from each client, that's a total of 9 other people that I get to converse with about the work that I do. Then I'm able to ask those 9 people if they know of anyone that may require my services, and so on. This is what we call networking in the business world, it rules the universe. This is only internet promotion, this is BIG...We have always viewed this place called the internet as a place where you don't want to talk to to many people. Especially about what you do, but that ancient way of thinking has changed. You can find out almost everything their is to know about a person on the internet now, just google it, right! In a lot of these communities people are providing you with their entire lifestyle and what they do. You can go to Myspace.com and find out how much a person makes, what their profession is, where they are from and so forth. You can even search them out in your area by these options. Doesn't get any better than that. Now all of this may or may not be true, especially how much they make. But as realtors we all know that when it comes to getting financing approved with some of our clients we are in for a bumpy ride. A client sometimes becomes a gamble, either you are gonna land a successful closing, or better luck next time. Still we appreciate their time and effort and wouldn't have it any other way right guys? ;-) We find out that just like some of the myspace profiles our clients aren't making as much as they are looking for in a home, or as much as they say but our job is to assist them and helpout if we can. Those of you new to internet promotion do some research on the top social internet networking communities. Google it, "top social internet networking communities", and see what you find. First you will get the definition of it, and second you will get a site to go to that will provide you with the top 10 websites. If you are not a member of those 10 sites listed in the article, then you are already cutting yourself short of promising profit. I hope this to be helpful to you all, even the experts if it may. What do I know, I'm just a rookie realtor trying to survive this Real Estate World War or Democracy. ;-) Much success and God Bless you all, fellow business associates.
