This morning I was thrilled to read about Kirsten Kaufman, a realtor for Prudential Real Estate in Portland who  hosts bike tours and shows homes by bike.  This mother of three startedd hosting bike tours earlier this summer, doling out energy bars and apricots to clients whose passion for pedaling weighs heavily in their choice of homes.

Recently we were looking at condos for our daughter in downtown Portland (who is an environmental engineer and doesn't own or want a car)  and must confess we felt a disconnect as we got into the realtor's big SUV to travel a few blocks to view the next condo!

Since the "green" market is a niche that is growing - here's a way to connect with those interested in sustainable living!  This realtor is thinking outside the box!  Go Portland!!!  Accoring to Wikipedia Portland has been referred to as the greenest city in the United States.  I don't know that its necessarily true, but I do love protecting our beautiful northwest and that other Oregonians also find this goal important.

Check out this great article! I'd love to hear what you are doing to appeal to the "green" buyer!

I think this is awesome -- Portland is a city that really is concerned and proactive about its environment and its great to see a realtor catering to those clients who bike and bus to work.

As a bike commuter I'd give this realtor a shot at finding me a home -- thanks for the interesting post.

Very cool.  What a creative niche she has found.

I had the opportunity to inspect a 'green house,' in Silverton the other day.  The home was absolutely incredible.  The builder was there to explain the many state of the art and common sense additions that I couldn't see.  Like the 2 beads of caulk he put under each wall, that helps to seal the home tighter than Tupperware.

He said that he was going to loose about $15,000 on that home.  I guess it is still hard to sell extreme energy effeciency when to most people the home "looks," just like the code build home down the street but costs quite a bit more.

I read that article too.  It made national news!  Portland is head and shoulders above all other cities when it comes to biking!
