Grass Fires

We all have heard about the horrible fire that consumed the homes in east Boise last week and took a life. My heart goes out to the family. I along with many others probley thought Thank-God that wasn't my neighborhood. Well today a small grass fire started here in Meridian. Not more than a quarter mile from my house. Luckily for us the Fire Department and the Police were right there and contained the fire. The grass burned with in feet of one home. Very scary. So for all of you out there who live in a subdivision that butts up to an open field you may consider mowing the weeds/grass next to your fence. It is unfortunate that alot of these areas are not kept up by the residential owners/farmers/developers. This incident was actually a plowed field and the owners have and do keep up the grounds. If this area was not kept up the outcome could have been so much worse. For the sake of your family and your nieghbors lets all work together to keep our neighobrhoods clean and clear so we don't have to worry about this happening again. I personally had a house just down form me that went into foreclosure. The owner / bank wouldn't return my calls so I got ahold of the City of Meridian's  Code Violations Department and they were able to get the job done. For the record the weeds were over five feet tall. The house still sits empty but atleast we do not have the fire danger any more.
