In todays online environment, it is pretty simple to find out all kinds of information about people. It is really kinda scary to think about all of the personal information floating out there for anyone to see, or use! Have you ever been to the website www.ZABASEARCH.com ? Visit this site and type your name into the search area. (You can narrow your search down by state if you have a common name.)
You will find your date of birth, addresses, past addresses, telephone number, kids, spouse's name...enough info that it would make stealing your identity a bit easier. I was told other sites feed off of this site to get data about you as well. So you'll want to get off of this data base!
TO REMOVE YOUR INFORMATION FROM ZABASEARCH...
They do not make finding the "remove me" information easy to find. You have to scroll down to the bottom of the site, click on privacy, and they list 2 ways to be removed from their database. One is online, the other is by printing off any of the data that is about you, circle it, and send a letter requesting the removal of the data.
I mailed my request to have my personal data removed from the site many years ago. The first time I visited this site, they gave income, addresses, birthdates, etc. (Since that time, they have removed the income, you have to pay to see that now.) What a site for people that have less than honorable intentions to find out private data.
DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO BE REMOVED FROM INTELIOUS (PAID INFO CONNECTED TO ZABASEARCH & OTHER ONLINE DATABASES)
This removal request of information is burried on the website & not easy to find!
Public records are available from the official public records custodian or repository to anyone who requests them. In order for any database of public records to be useful, the databases must contain all of the information in the public records offices. Our data files must accurately reflect the underlying public records, and we do not remove or suppress any information that is both accurate and publicly available. There are exceptions to this rule, as a courtesy we allow law enforcement, certain government officials or employees, and individuals with court protection orders the to opt out their information.
If you have a compelling privacy or security issue, you may wish to contact the official custodians of those public records that contain sensitive information about you, such as your county's land records office, to determine how to remove your information from the public record. (The process of having public records sealed typically requires a court order.) This process will ensure that the information is not available to the public, to Intelius, or to any other public records information provider.
As a courtesy we can 'opt out' your specific information from the Intelius People Search service. What this means is that your name as it appears in a particular record and the associated identifying information such as your address and phone number will be suppressed if you request this in the manner described below. However, please note that any time your identifying information appears in a public record in a manner which is different from the record you opted out, it will again appear in our system. (For example, if your address or area code changes your new information will again appear unless you opt out the new record.) There also are many other public records search services which are not owned by Intelius and your request that we opt out your information will not prevent your information from appearing on these other services.
In order for Intelius to "opt out" your public information from being viewable on the Intelius website, we need to verify your identity and require faxed proof of identity. Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver's license. If you are faxing a copy of your driver's license, cross out the photo and the driver's license number. We only need to see the name, address and date of birth. Please fax to 425-974-6194 and allow 4 to 6 weeks to process your request.
Each individual that wishes to be opted out of Intelius must be accompanied by proof of identity and address. We will only be processing opt out requests we receive by fax and no request will be processed without complete information. Requests for opt out will not be processed over the phone or via email.
