~September 5th & 6th 2008~Reno Balloon Races are being held at Rancho San Rafael Park~

The Great Reno Balloon Race is the largest free hot air ballooning event in the nation!

For the last 25 years, thousands of people from all over the world have traveled to Northern Nevada for this spectacular show!

You will find more than 100 hot air balloons taking flight with over 100,000 spectators enjoying this surreal event that takes place at dawn each morning.

You will need to dress warm and arrive early, and by early, I mean early!  To enjoy the beauty of this show that begins a dawn, arrival time should be no later than 5 a.m.

The launch is considered by many the best part of the balloon races. Bring a blanket to sit on, pack a picnic breakfast to snack on, relax and enjoy the Dawn Patrol show.

The view of the many colorful balloons at the launch is unbelievable and exciting. Bring your camera and take a lot of pictures. It will be worth waking up extra early just to see the balloons rise to the sky and take off.

This year you can paticipate in The Worlds Largest Pajama Party that will be held at the Great Reno Balloon Race on Saturday, September 6th, 2008. The party begins at 5a.m. Awards will be given for the best Bed Head!

So if you are planning on getting up early, keep those pajama's on and don't mess with the hair! You may just win a price for the best (or worst) bed head!

Awards will be presented in the following categories:

~Best Kids Bed Head (12 & under)

~Best Teenage Bed Head (13 -18)

Terrie, I'm pleased to hear and see that the hot air balloon race in Reno is still happening.  We used to live in Reno and in Incline and we always loved this early morning event.  We would "camp" overnight in our RV and rise to the swooshing sounds of beautiful balloons being inflated.  It was truly awesome.

We will have to make that trip again...perhaps next year.  Thanks for the blog.

Ginger ~ Yes the balloon race is still happening and is thriving! I am sure you would be surprised if you could see it. I don't think the city let's people camp on McCarran Blvd anymore! Now you just have to get there early and enjoy the show.
