TOO EASY TO GET LICENSE??? PART ONE

By

I think that it is too easy to get a license to sell Real Estate.

Here in Nevada it is simple

  • 90 hours of “pre-license” class room training
  • State Test (40 questions)
  • National Test (80 questions)
  • Finger Printing and background check

Once you have your license there is one additional requirement.

  • 30 Hours of “post-license” training

So for a total of 120 hours of training you can handle a transaction that is the most important thing that most people will ever do… Let’s think about that, we are talking about 120 hours for what is here an average of $250,000 transaction compared to lets see…

  • Cosmetology -1800 hours
    • The study or art of cosmetics and their use
  • Hairdesigner-1200 hours
    • The art of cutting hair, Hair Stylists can also be called designers
  • Manicuring-500 hours –
    • A cosmetic treatment of the fingernails, including shaping and polishing
  • Electrology-500 hours –
    • The practice of hair removal through the use of electrified needles

What does it say to you when someone who can:

· do a bad make up job

· give you a bad hair cut

· cut your nails wrong

· leave some hair on your body

All these people need a minimum of more then four times the training then someone who can take a quarter of a million dollars from you? Does that sound right?

Richard - You said it all!  I couldn't say it better then what you put down.  I had some bad hair cut. LOL!  It's a good point!

You just hit on my biggest "pet peeve" with our industry.  Education requirements are nothing compared with the other types of professions!  I like your comparisons! HA HA

Sometimes I look at the folks that have licenses and wonder how they managed to get them -- I agree, the standards and requirements are entirely too low. ~ Evelyn

I agree with Evelyn, I have met people in our industry that made me wonder how they ever got a license too. I think if the requirements were a little stricter, we would have more respect as well.  Great blog and great point made!

You make a good point however, there's no comparison to getting a bad haircut, hair eventually grows back!  Anyone taking the real estate exam needs to understand they need to take upon themselves to get intensive training before going out on their own to take a listing or sell.

A lot of fly by night agents during the big boom gave the profession a bad name!
