Coaching vs. Managing

By
Education & Training with Berman & Pollinger, LLC.

Management is basically about control - to get things done that the manager or company needs to get done. The client or employee comes second. Management works, but is fundamentally flawed by its power-oriented approach.

Coaching, on the other hand, can be a strength-oriented approach, since it brings out the best in people instead of pushing them harder to do the prescribed job. In fact, coaching can help redesign your job, career, and life so that it works better for you, instead of working better for others. Coaching often pulls clients forward because they get in touch with what THEY want to do. Managing may also do some of this, but only within the confines of the corporation' s overriding needs, culture and objectives. Coaching is a pull structure. Managing is a push structure.

Carpe diem,

Chris

Chris -

These two items are not subtly different.  They are COMPLETELY different!

I have had a business coach, and the strategy here is to GET YOU TO SEE THE LIGHT, which, ultimately, is far more effective than SHINING THE LIGHT IN YOUR EYES, and forcing you to follow it.

I can't imagine not having a Business Success Coach these days.  I can't get by for a while without a direct "Manager."

You agree?

I agree that in todays world and depending on how companies define manager, that performing agents are dire need of gettign themselves coaches to keep the torch burning. I use coaches and have found that they do replace my inner voice at times and have proven to be a great addition to achieving my goals

That's funny. Lots of agents are successful at getting a business coach to show them how to make their business work.  It's that whole "give a man a fish, teach a man to fish" mentality.  So many coaches are now consulting their clients to get a VA to manage their business so that they can then go out and do the part of the business that makes them happiest!  You just can't lose!

Reading Dean's comment made me think of "A Bug's Life" when the ant went into the city and the bugs were flying by the bug-zapper.  One says, "Don't go into the light!"  The other says, "I can't help it!  It's so beautiful!"  Where he promptly gets zapped.

Too many business owners in general get "zapped" because the light is trying to handle everything all the time and it just doesn't work.  Wherein they get burnt out and can't do anything effectively.

I can agree here to a point, but how do you find the reight coach. I have had four coaches in 14 years and learned from each one but was it worth the money I really can't say, because they taught you what you already knew but wasn't doing.

This whole coaching thing kinda makes me laugh......I still believe that a Broker is supposed to do what the "Coaches" do.  Why would one of my Agents need to pay someone to learn what I should be able to teach them?  Now if a Coach can guarantee them a decent income in this Market I might change my mind....but I doubt it.  A Broker needs to know more than just Real Estate, then teach the Agents.  That's my opinion :)

No offence intended :)
