I'm Off To See The Wizard or Into The Trenches I go...

Real Estate Agent with I.V.P.G. - Inland Valley Professional Group

Hi All,

Well, a lot has happened since yesterday evening when I first joined and contributed to Active Rain.  I have heard from lots of folks whose good wishes have inspired, amused and amazed me and I have figured out how to join groups.  I also tossed my hat or rather laptop into the ring Per Ardell's suggestion among others, for the Project Blogger contest.

(I still don't quite know how to link, although I did find a wonderful post on that very topic in the newbies section and shall endeavor to give it a try.  I also don't know how to contact anyone in any manner other than by email.  So fear not AR friends, it is ignorance and not arrogance that prevents me from entering into lively discourse.  But, I am sure that I will have that licked in the very near future. But, I digress... So now back to the topic at hand.)

All this and I still now have an exciting and fun-filled afternoon ahead of me dodging drivers and pounding h-stakes into ground that bears more resemblance to concrete than earth.  Yes, you guessed it... Today I have an open house!

At this point in my career (read that, very new to the industry and extremely enthusiastic) I don't have a listing of my own... yet.  So, I spend my weekends offering to host open houses for agents within and without my office or even my company (with my broker's and operating principal's blessing, of course).

Today I shall be spending my Sunny Southern California day in the city of Montclair.  If you are in the neighborhood, feel free to stop by 10210 Santa Anita.

I really need to figure out how to feel more like a Real Estate professional and less like a gypsy caravan when I am preparing for these events.

By the time I have loaded and unloaded the car, placed the signs (which I use as a litmus test for my Karma, if the SUV driven by the harried soccer mom with the caffeine buzz and the bluetooth implant does not take me out, I must still have more to do down here) and drenched the carpets and drapes in Febreeze I am already bushed.  And the event has only been in action for less than 10 minutes!

Am I the only one who brings what amounts to a mobile office where 'ere I go?  Do others travel with a printer/scanner, extra ink, reams of printed material, assorted water bottles and snacks (all festooned with my image and contact info of course), a cd player to set the mood, and boxes of thank you notes and stamps just waiting for use?

Will I end my day on the high note of many new prospects and an offer, or the low one of a mangled or altogether missing sign.  Only time will tell, but if I don't tear myself away from the keyboard now I can be sure of only one thing, If I don't get a move on there is no way this open house will start on time!

Have a wonderful day all.  Help lots of people and take care,

 Tisza

Hi Tisza -

When I first started doing open houses I felt that I needed to take everything that I might just possibly need in the next few hours, so it took me FOREVER, just to get the car packed!  (When I was a new mother I usually took a week's worth of diapers every time I took the baby for a 2 hour trip!)  After a while, you will figure out what you really need, and what can wait until later.

I would probably leave the printer in the trunk of my car, and just promise to email any info that a potential buyer might want - it gives you a good excuse to get a valid email address from them!

Congratulations on getting featured on your first post!  I also attended Dustin's seminar yesterday and totally enjoyed it.   He has so much energy and enthusiasm that it went by very quickly!  Driving up from Orange County took longer that I had hoped, and I got caught in a traffic jam, so I got there 1/2 hour after it started.  I talked to the organizers later, and they assured me that they will talk him in to doing more seminars soon, so I will be going again.

I'm over 50, but I really do "get it!"

Welcome to Active rain Tisza,

I too am hoping to be picked by Drew, but if he makes his decision based on prose alone, I'm sunk.

You have an awesome writing style (I am pushing 50, is  "awesome" OK?).  I enjoyed reading your first post, and this one as well.

I know that open houses aren't fun, I hope yours went well today; and in the future you can advertise your opens in your Blog!

Good Luck, Phil

I like your Wizard analogy - it's more frequent than not that we're called upon to do Magic.

Hi Sharon,

I agree, somewhere in the RPA legalese the word abracadabra is hidden.  Thank you for reading my offerings and please be sure to check out my competion blog Route66Living.com, which is a work in progress, as well.

Take care, help lots of people and have a wonderful day!
