This week I was busy with my team staging an owner occupied house....with many challenges! One of those challenges was the wonderful Angled Fireplace. Here in Cincinnati, we are seeing alot of new construction with this feature. I'm still trying to figure out why builders think an angled fireplace is a great design...I guess it works for them as far as creating a smaller space with angles and vaulted ceilings to give the "illusion" of a bigger room when it really is not. I'm finding that my clients with these wonderful angles have no idea how to arrange their furniture so they do what most do...push it up against a wall. What happens now is that all the furniture is lined up against the walls with alot of floor space in the middle.....It feels cold and uninviting....and you are shouting across the room to talk. My challenge this week was to make a family room feel warm and cozy with a great conversation area but keeping the focal point on that wonderful angled fireplace! Once I rearranged the sofa and loveseat, I had a blank wall to the left...you can read more about this here: Furniture Arrangement and the Angled Fireplace....HELP! Thanks again to my dear AR stagers for suggestions and pictures of how they met the challenge of angled fireplaces!
Here's my solution that worked pretty well for this particular house:
