A sleepless night.. A great idea.

I awoke the other night to this irritating beeping sound.  At first I didn't know what it was.            I thought maybe someone's phone battery was dying.  As my husband lay next to me- oblivious to the noise, I got up in search.  On the other side of the house- I finally found it- the smoke detector.  Why do the batteries in these things always die in the wee hours of the morning?

Besides my husband in deep sleep so was my 12 year old daughter, Tiffany, who just happens to have the room right near this smoke detector.  She never moved either.  I swear a train could come through the middle of the home and I would be the only one aware.

After the battery was switched.. I could not fall back asleep.  Not only am I a light sleeper, but also it takes me a long time to fall asleep.  And because I got out of bed- the cat thinks it is time to eat and will not stop meowing. Not being too happy- I elbowed my husband to wake him.. J/K, but I thought about it.

With many thoughts running through my head... I was thinking about work and the contacts I should be calling, e-mailing, etc.  I decided to make a brochure with some helpful information for others.  Now, with all of these hurricanes coming our way on a weekly basis (I live in Central Florida) what better information than some Hurricane Safety Tips.

Of course, then I really couldn't sleep. I was thinking of how to put it all together and what it would look like.  Also, what businesses I would take them to or if I should e-mail the information to others. So, I spent a few hours gathering information placing pictures and printing the brochures.

The brochures turned out great.  I dropped them off to approximately a dozen places already.  I also made a pdf file and e-mailed to some of my contacts.

Now hopefully I will get some great leads from this...yes, on the back page was my information.

Maybe the other smoke detectors in my home will lose battery power and I will have that little lightbulb go off.  It definately doesn't hurt to get a little motivation from somewhere (anywhere) when your stuck in a little rut.

How and when do you brainstorm to come up with ideas that will get your name out there and drum up some business?

What a great idea Tina! I'm over on the Space Coast, so I understand the hurricane threat. I too tend to lay in bed thinking of ideas. My only problem is that I forget them by the next morning! I need to add a notebook to my bedside table! Can I steal your idea for Hurricane brochures?

Yes- definately Lauren.  go right ahead- I don't mind at all, actually I am quite flattered.  Be safe over there and good luck with the brochures.  I just got some information from the internet and used Publisher to make it pretty with pictures etc.      Thanks,   Tina

Well we don't have hurricanes in California, but I could do one on heat stroke safety, it was 104 here today!!!!  Good idea and a good way to spend sleeplessness...

I thought I was the only one that had those sleepless nights!  LOL

Our smoke alarm only goes off when I'm cooking - that's how I can tell when dinner is done.  J/K  :)

I usually get wild ideas when I'm in the middle of something that won't let me stop and make notes.  Then it takes me 2 weeks before the idea comes back to me.  Maddening, I tell ya!

Someone told me long ago to keep a pad and pencil next to my bed so that I could jot down ideas in the middle of the night.  That way, I do not need to try and remember the idea until the morning.

Hi Tina  -    Great post.  I had that happen once too.  I ended up braking the alarm because it just would not stop, even with a new battery.  Have a great Day!!!

Sounds like the story of my life lately.  I've been really getting aggressive with my online presence and have had many great ideas coming through my head.  It's hard to unwind some time's I have many nights where i'm laying in bed thinking about how to improve my real estate business.   Probably not the worst thing.  Keep up the great work!

Carol,   Yes, that is normally when my smoke detector goes off.  Actually, to tell you the truth- my husband decided the smoke detector was too close to my stove (it went off a lot),  So,  he moved it farther away....  :)

Neal,  that happened to me twice- and also in the middle of the night.  I wonder if at the factory they set it that way and just laugh to themselves all the time...knowing the agony they are putting us through.  The one we have now- did not do that.. thankfully... maybe that guy forgot to add the prankster alarm.

Appreciate all the comments guys...gals...

I do the ssame thing as Sharon does. For a long time I have had a pen & paper by my bed so if I awake with ideas, I can jot them down.

Another great post Tina-you are getting good at this.  We don't get much from the hurricanes up here, but I would like to use that idea for clients we have on the coast, if that's OK with you,
