I love to take a morning walk along the beach at La Jolla Shores. Early mornings are my favorite because over the years I have seen the same people walking and we greet each other... a comforting and familiar ritual. Many of my "friends" bring their dogs for walks along the beach, which you are allowed to do until 9 am. Although there is a leash requirement, many of the pet owners go down the beach and past the Scripps Pier to let their dogs roam freely chasing the seabirds and frolicking in the surf. Have you ever seen a dog smiling? Here you will see that and the sheer pleasure they are experiencing while running freely along the sand... you can't help but smile along with them.
My favorite spot to stop and welcome the morning is under the La Jolla Scripps Pier. I like to stand in between the pylons and look out, to what I consider, to be the doorway to the future possibilities for the day. Sometimes the pylons appear to be long and far between and signify to me bench marks for the hurdles that the day will bring, then there are the stormy days when I know the day ahead will be a challenge, but there is always the light at the end of the corridor. However, more often than not, the path is smooth, wave free and opens to a world of optimism that fills me with joy and wonder for the adventure ahead.
The next time you take a walk along the beach at La Jolla Shores, I hope you will stop underneath the pier, stand between the pylons looking out to the west, and take the time to consider the possibilities that are out there in your life...
