Security at new home sites

Recently I spoke on this topic in an article in the PA Realtor magazine about being safe in new home communities.  I was asked to explain a bit more information.  We represent a lot of builders and several that have communities in areas without a lot of visibility.  We use a system that is connected to the model home security system - almost like a remote key start for your car.  It is a silent alarm button that looks like a remote car door opener.  The site agents carry the device with them when touring the house or the lots with buyers who come to the community.  There are 2 buttons on the remote - one is silent and sends a signal to the alarm company who then notify the local police department.  The second button is one that triggers the house alarm to go off , which is very loud and could scare off the perpetrator.  It also sends an alarm code to the police again.  With agents more on their own and alone at sites it is important to be aware of their safety.  This is an inexpensive way to protect them and make them feel more secure.

Thanks Bette,  I will follow up on your response.  It's timely because monday one of our agents told me of her open house experience this past week-end just after closing time.  She was finishing up with a customer and a female walked in.  Our agent said she would stay open a couple minutes for the new arrival.  She invited the female to look around while she finished up with her current customer.  After the customer left our agent heard a noise from up stairs and a response from the female.   It is a long story but turns out the female was rifling through some drawers in the master bedroom and Oops she opened one to far and it fell to the floor.  So had our agent had a silent alarm it would have been used!
