Blogging for the points ~ the lazy blogger.

Blogging for points

I know we are not supposed to blog for "points" and that "points" are supposed to be irrelevant.  For the most part, I don't have a problem with that.  But...

I do blog for "position".  I enjoy being in the top position for my town.  I enjoy being in the top group for my county and hopefully someday will be in the top group for my state.  The whole point of blogging is to put out information, whether it be a life experience, or instructions, or even a periodic joke we wish to pass on.  That said, it comes back to the point system.  The more you blog the more points you get and the higher you climb up the blogging ladder.

Now for a bit of a gripe.  There are a few "so called bloggers" on the ladder who obviously blog just for the points.  Here are a few stats that lead me to this conclusion.

As you can see this individual has posted 671 blogs to my 109, BUT has only recieved a total of 18 comments.  I have made 2500 comments while this person has ONLY made 2 comments.

Most of the blogs by this individual are identical with the exception of different pictures, and town names.  Week after week.

Obviously this person doesn't comment on other blogs, or maybe they don't read other blogs.  They are not an asset to the community nor are they good bloggers.  671 blogs and only 18 comments received.  Pretty sad.  There are several of these individuals out there.  I will climb past this individual in due time, and so will many others who blog for the right reasons.  Guess they missed the lesson on "why we blog in the Rain".

Well, that's my rant for the day, and I'm sticking to it.  Have a great day in the Rain to all you wonderful bloggers and readers.

Kelly - Thanks for commenting.  Competition is good, and very welcome here in the Rain.  We just need to compete with fairness. Keep up the good work.

John - I tend to agree, this person hasn't put much effort and when people research, they will see thru the smoke and move on. Thank you for commenting.

Bob, funny, I missed this blog of yours, and I came across a person in our state with these numbers:

Score: Over 85000K

Blog Posts: 432

Comments Received: 73

Comments made: 54

But what caught my attention even more, was that I looked on a recent blog of theirs, mentioning a listing from MARCH, closed in APRIL (1st) and they put a blog out in AUGUST about this 'great' quick sale in about 40 days.  I could see putting it out in April right after the sale, but AUGUST???  Give me a break!  They are not a good contributor in my opinion as well!  And I have little doubt they think they are 'good' bloggers because of the QUANTITY of blogs.  I'm sure with 108K+ members, there are quite a few more of these people as well.  Oh well.

I blog after completing research on an area for accuracy, and try and have unique and well written content. This is an interesting post, and congrats on your gold star!

Ron - I guess it took them that long to put the words on paper.  LOL.  It might just be  something that they just realized.  At least it wasn't some template with the same pictures, different name.  Thanks for commenting.

Sharon - Thank you for the kudos and the comments.  Each person blogs in their own way, and I understand that.  I just have a problem with using the same template over and over and making minor changes for points.  Then not taking the time to read what others have written.  Have a great day.

Bob, the whole thing makes me sick, yes it is spamming the system. I was going to write on it too, so glad you did. I still may. For all the folks that dont' care, obviously they don't have someone in their state writing the same thing over and over again with different titles to get to the top. So what if it has a yellow circle with red mark through it, they are still getting points, and google juice.

Missy, Don't get all upset over it.  Get even.  Write about them and write good stuff.  Get the extra points for all the comments you will receive and continue to comment on other blogs.  Thanks for commenting.

I agree with Jason Crouch. The same thing goes on in my little piece of AR. Do I care? Well it was bugging me for awhile, but I'm so over it because I know the public isn't stupid. Congrats on your "featured" post!

You know Bob, what is funny, is you mentioning this and with their CLEAR lack of real involvement on AR, they do not even know you wrote about this/them.  Pretty amusing I think.  Like Debbie just said, the public is not stupid either!  Have a great week!

Debbie, I agree, and I try to tell myself I really don't care, but to an extent I obviously do otherwise I wouldn't have written this post. Also, I've obviously hit a nerve with a lot of others who feel strongly about the subject.  Thank you for the kudos and for commenting.

Ron, It is funny, because I tried to not make it too obvious, but the more I researched this individual, the more I realized he didn't care about anything to do with AR other than his weekly hits.  Thanks for commenting.

Hi Bob,   I agree, that is sad that someone only has made 2 comments.  That person has missed the point of blogging.

Hi!  Me again.  When you first wrote this blog, I was a bit of a "NOOB" to AR, and didn't write many blogs, so this topic was not terribly upsetting to me.  Now that I write more (and because I put a LOT of effort into my writings), it does upset me when I see 3-line blogs, and pure advertisements disguised as blogs...

I just visited a "Featured Member" profile and saw they had over 70,000 blogging points, but when I looked at the blogs themselves, I saw that they are the same 3-sentence blog reposted over and over...usually twice a day with different titles!  To top it all off, their *ahem* "blog" is merely an advertisement for their company - telling only the product they offer their phone number and their website address (not even a link).  There aren't even any details on the product - you have to go to the website!!!  Now THAT is lazy.

While many of my posts are not particularly industry-related, at least I try to put some value to the reader in them...some humour, an anecdote, or a bit of life advice, etc., so it really bothers me that my "points competitors" will post just about anything for the points.  It bothers me even more that they consistently repost the same garbage over and over, just to make up their maximum number of posts for the week.

Whew!  I feel better now...thanks for the outlet for my rant :)
