Stand Up 2 Cancer ~ How have you been affected?

By

Friday night, millions of Americans tuned into "Stand Up to Cancer." It's a Cancer Telethon that was aired at the same time by the big three networks, NBC, ABC and CBS.  News anchors from all three networks hosted and they were joined by some of the biggest stars in the movie, TV and music industry.

The goal: to raise money for cancer research so we can one day find a cure for cancer.

With this all said, how have you been affected? I know that personally, I have lost my grand father to lung cancer and many of my loved ones have battled cancer. My mother and grandmother both survived colon cancer and my sister has battled hoskins lymphoma. They stated last night that 1500 people a day die from cancer alone, that is 547,500 a year. I know that everyone has been touched by cancer in some shape or form and I feel that if we all work together we can beat this.

If you have not had a chance to donate, here is the link to check it out:

They are doing something that I find to be truly awesome and that is you have the opportunity to name a star after someone. Maria and I found that this is a great way to honor a friend or loved one. We have been doing this in lieu of flowers.

Thanks for you time and attention. God Bless

One of my best friend who, just past away a month ago from cancer. I was by his side for almost a year, helping him the battle. The sad part of cancer is when a person first finds out that he has cancer, everyone jump into to help. It does not happen. As time progresses through the treatments, most of the friends tend to go away and can not be bother. Then most of them come back to see and be part of the process when this person is on their death bed. I was going to group therapy with my friends, and they say this happens all the time. This is sad.

So, if you know someone that has cancer, help them and be with them as much as you can and help. Every little bit helps.

Best Wishes to those who are dealing with Cancer or have gone through it. I believe and understand your pain.

Has anyone not had a brush with cancer is more like it.  Wicked bad stuff for sure and seemingly unstoppable if not caught early.  Do your screenings people.

It was a great show last night. I just read a great book called Toxic Relief by Dr. Don Colbert.  I highly encourage anyone concerned about cancer to read this book.  There are lots of things that we do to the earth and our body that poison it.  There are things we can do to correct it too.

I was impressed that all the networks got behind this important stand -- the show prompted my significant other to make a donation she would not otherwise

Good for you guys.   We were out and missed it.  I have had so many loved ones have cancer and survive and few that have not, including myself.  I had 3 friend in the last two years have lung cancer, lost one, and they didn't smoke.  Interesting that we are brainwashed into thinking that you have to smoke in order to get lung cancer.  My 3 very best friends all went through different treatments from breast cancer.  I had Thyroid, not too serious - just radiation treatment and surgery- but others really have a time.  Thank God we live in a time where we have early detection to at least have a fighting chance.   Good for you for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Thanks for your comments on my blog earlier in the day. We missed the show last night, as we were glued to the Weather Channel and WeatherUnderground on our computers. I am a cancer survivor, as of July 31st 2008, I am ten years out from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Stage 4. My doctor at Duke, Jon Gockerman told me when I was diagnosed, the words that every cancer patient wants to hear - we can cure you. Every cancer patient should hear those words, not just a fortunate few. Thanks for bringing this to the attention of our ActiveRain community.

We will be down in Charleston next week for a concert. Kathy has family in the city. We love a drink a the Market Pavilion rooftop bar and dinner at Fulton Five. You are SO lucky to have so many great places to eat and fantastic things to do. Y'all stay in touch.
